Lowest Cost Lowest Carb Food

I'd say the lowest cost, lowest carb food would be eggs. I can buy 48 count of eggs at Costco for ~$3.42. That's about 7cents each. Anyone else?

my budget

my budget is such that i cannot do dairy so have to alternatives that are very expensive Tofuetti sour cream 3.99 for 8 oz and the same for cram cheese the only chese i can eat is goat chees is goat cheese or vegan cheese so what money i have goees for that ( we are one income on diasabliity) so i end up going to food pantrys and am very thankful for them. That being said it means a good part fo what i get is high starch high carb. (i am passing my high carb suff in to others who can use it but it is discouraging) especially when i have to make subsitutions and the stuff for the substitutions are expensive as anyone with food allergies will attest

This is so helpful. I am trying to figure out for 10 days what to eat. I have a 10 gift card for Walgreens, and 25. But, I need to spend money on gas and parking for school

So, I am thinking 10 for walgreens and 10 outside. What should I buy??

I have a dozen of eggs, 3 cans of canned salmon, head of lettuce, little broc.

Keep in mind, I am very active, and workout a lot. I will get paid on the 17th, but being a doctoral student is no joke. lol

So, is this doable?? I guess the good thing is I might lose a few lbs and become more disciplined by being forced to a budget. Usually this is not the issue and I have plenty of money for food, but week was thrown off when I did not work over spring break.

Breathe... I can do this somehow. I need to find food that will LAST me, not just here and there. What I have right now is not enough to live on for ten days, no matter how I try to perceive this.

oops.. forgot to mention, no dairy and no gluten.

So, just meat for ten days? a few veggies..... Should I buy a bag of chicken breasts and hope for the BEST I could get a whole bag at TJ for 7.00.

You are better off getting a whole chicken and roasting it, then cutting it up for different meals.... chicken salad, etc, then using the carcass to make a good stock. You ideally want the less expensive dark cuts of meat with the skin because you really do need the fat. I do not cut out veggies, I just stick to green beans and cauliflower while in induction.

THANKS for these threads - - I had 'gotten lost' for a few months there -my 'oomph' has gone out of me and I don't like that at all - that isn't me -now, I'm back [again] -but with a determination this time - - my boyfriend doesn't like low carb stuff and says I don't make stuff he likes, so . . . . I'm not sure where this really belongs but my low budget tip would be this:

I'm a student so sticking to a budget is important to me and when I started this new WOE I bought (invested in!) some small snack lunchboxes so I can buy bigger packs of things and get several days' food out of them as I take little picnics wherever I go. This reduces waste and also saves me money as I don't spend on food when I am out and about. I can weigh and track more easily too and by having small containers it discourages me from just eating the whole packet of things when I don't really need to or by taking too much food out for the day when I'm in uni or at work or even visiting family/friends (who are now used to me bringing my own snacks and no longer find it rude or odd!)

Other obvious ones might be:

I buy big bags of frozen prawns and defrost and cook them in snack-sized batches - I can get three 'pots' from a bag which saves me loads as prawns are so expensive when you buy them in snack portions from the supermarket!

I buy frozen vegetables sometimes too, and if they're on offer I definitely try to stock up so by the end of the month when I'm feeling stretched I can still eat low carb, healthily and without spending any more money.
