Stopping smoking and low carbing?
Tomorrow is my quit date and I am really happy about that and looking forward to being smoke free
I've been low carbing for over a year now and am in a happy place there!! but I am nervous that I am going to start overeating to compensate for not smoking, has anyone here managed to quit the evil weed and stay on track food wise? ![]() Lorraine. |

I have quit smoking (several times...lol) and found it easier when eating low carb than when not. Something about breaking your sugar/starch addiction makes breaking other addictions easier (or so I've read). On the other hand, I have yet to be able to stay off the smokes, though I've cut down a GREAT deal (only 6 cigs a day on average now, and happy with that) the last couple years.
Try the tips the quit smoking aids suggest, like crunching ice, drinking water, and brushing your teeth when you want to smoke! I wish you all the best of success in quitting!!! ![]() |

My DB quit a year ago, and he didn't gain any weight. He traded his smokes for a gym membership and it really helped him. He also became a cronic gum chewer to help also. Not Nicotine gum, just sf gum. Good luck to you!!

I stopped smoking ( for the second time...hopefully for good!) about 6 weeks ago. I'm a great believer in just stopping...no patches or gum.....too, and it's been fine. As long as you realise that the 1st 3 days are the worst ( like induction) and really it's just like an itch you can't scratch, you'll be fine. And if you eat a bit more for the 1st week or so, then just be aware of what you're doing and why, and stick to LC snacks.
Good luck hun, may the force be with you! |

I quit smoking in 2004 about 1 month after starting induction. And am still smoke free. Best thing I ever did. My best suggestion would be to go back to at least phase 2 of low carb and remember the foods that you had, especially the snacks. And drink plenty of water, for some reason if I drank water when I craved a cig the taste went away. I know you'll do fine and the payoff is well worth it. Good luck.

I quit smoking when low carbing. It was way back in the beginning and I don't think I had any trouble. I had quit several times before--once for 5 years and decided one day"one won't hurt". Right....(sort of like this one cookie won't hurt!) Anyway, been smoke free for about 9 years now. It's SO worth it. You shouldn't have any trouble if you stay on track with your low carb plan. Best of luck!

I have been low carbing for almost 2 1/2 years now and i too quit smoking about a year into it. I stayed on low carb while quitting and didn't change a thing about my eating and i still gained 18lbs. I had to lose that weight all over again which stunk but i am much healthier in the long run for quitting. I'm sure the weight gain is not what you want to hear but everyone is different. I believe that your body slows down so much from not having to overcompensate for the nicotine that it just goes into shock and you put on weight. It will all balance out slowly but surely... Good luck to you!!!

I quit smoking 10 months ago and gained 13 lbs. I've read that nicotine contributes to insulin resistance; so, that is another good reason to kick the habit.
I need to get off my butt and exercise! Good luck to you!! |
