WOE: Atkins.
Start Date: Restarted Feb 5, 2013. Weighing once a month!
Going to have to buy a couple of Atkins Bars!

Hey all I am doing really well with my new life. NO cheats other than a rum and diet coke since Jan 2nd. I have lost weight and my muffinis top is so much smaller.
This Thursday hubby and I are heading to Buffalo overnight ( we live in Ontario Canada) we are flying to Tulsa Oklahoma and our flight leaves at 6:15 am. We have to transfer flights. We won't make the Continental Breakfast at the hotel and we only have 1 hour between flights. SO it usually be a quick muffin and coffee. SO I will bring some nuts and an Atkins Bar for breakfast. NOPE not perfect but with all the regulations on flights now you are barely allowed a carry on bag.

It is my goal to stay on program for the entire weekend and wedding. So I guess I have to do what I have to do.

Any other suggestions.

Katie

Bring an empty water bottle, and fill it up at a water fountain after you get through security. I did that and it worked great.

Katie, the little cafe in the Buffalo airport (past security) sells Fage yogurt. Of course, it's an arm and a leg, but available! The also have things like sausage biscuits, so you can probably just order plain sausage.

I guess you've eaten the bars before? If not, I wouldn't try them for the first time that day, just in case they don't "settle well". Enjoy your trip!

Just about any kind of food service place will have egg/bacon/sausage type sandwiches - ditch the muffin and just eat the meat and egg. Some airports have McD's or other fast food - again, you can modify and make do.

I'm not a big fan of Atkins bars, but they are doable in a pinch.

I always have a zip lock bag of raw almonds and walnuts with me when I travel, and I'm getting ready for a longer trip, so I just bought some Ostrim sticks from Netrition. Good quality protein and easy to pack.

The problem is we wont have time to stop for a good breakfast between our flights. 1 hour to get off the plane and onto another. So that is when I will have to eat something or else it will be miserable.

Yeah I have eaten the bars before. I find that my stomach is always a little upset with lowcarb. I am the opposite of others. I tend to have an upset stomach not constipation

Hit a McDonalds and get some eggs and sausage. It isn't perfect food but it will do in a pinch and they are open early for breakfast.
When I used to eat at fast food places and was out and about on weekends with the then boyfriend, we used to hit Mickey Dees. I would order 2 big breakfasts. He would order pancakes and give me his sausage and then he took all my carby sides while I filled up on a double serving of eggs and 3sausage patties.
During the week when I was out by myself I just tossed the carby stuff or told them not to include it.

I order eggs and sausage at McD, or sausage mcmuffins/egg sans the muffins. Yummers.

I'd choose a LaraBar over an atkins bar any day. More carbs but good carbs and NO fake stuff in them.

that's my two cents

eta: Have a wonderful trip! Bet it'll be a LOT warmer there than where you are now

How about carrying on a hard boiled egg and some slices of ham? As far as I know security would be okay with those.

How about a few plastic-encased mozarella cheese sticks? They're what I always used to put in my travel emergency stash when I was eating at a ketogenic level.

I always bring bacon and cheese when I fly. I fry it up the night before. I never get hassled with it....

Good luck with whatever you choose!

LOL
Thanks everyone. Hard to take stuff across the border. We have had stuff thrown out before. I am going to try to take some cheese nuts and a bar of some kind with me. I have never had or heard of a Lara Bar before. I am kind of proud of myself for thinking about it before I go. Instead of caving and eating something wrong.

Thursday night hubby is taking me out for Buffalo wings LOL

Cheers

Do you know where he is taking you? They just opened a new Duff's not too far from the Airport. A lot of Buffalonians SWEAR by Duff's wings

You should be proud of yourself! Whether or not people approve of your choice of what to take the fact that you are learning to think ahead and be prepared IS worth celebrating.

myself, I do atkins bars - especially on trips - but another good bring-along item in addition to nuts is: laughing cow cheese - which is shelf-stable and does not need refrigeration. Things like foil packs of tuna along with a plastic fork or two just 'for emergencies" when you might be in danger of making a poor choice.

Edited to say: I also bring lc pitas with me just in case I am stuck at a sandwich shop, a half a pita can save a meal when eating out with others and you may not want to just eat "innards" ..

I always plan ahead for trips, and even for restaurant meals. Planning = success.

Have a great time!!

I agree some people have stomach issues with the sugar alcohols.

I always take a box of Atkin's bars whenever I go on a trip. I don't eat them otherwise, but they've saved me many times when I've gotten so hungry I could eat everything in sight. I also like to take individually wrapped string cheese, beef jerky, nuts (macadamia's are especially filling), lindt 85% chocolate bar. It's always good to be prepared!

Yes being prepared is key. I will have lots with me.

NO weightloss this week though I stayed on plan. I am just going to plod along and see how it goes.

SO I will have to be doubly prepared this weekend.
