Can I make some Chili

I want to make some chili, however, I am not sure if it will mess my diet up. I use 3 cans of sauce, Extra meat and onions. The can says it has 3 carbs and 1 sugar per 1/4 of a can. Does anyone thiink that is to much?I have been going strong and so afraid to mess myself up?

Not sure where you are on your program, but I make chili all.the.time. No beans and I use steak. Tomato sauce and seasonings. I find the lowest carb tomato sauce.

Enjoy!

There are several good chili recipes over in the recipe room. I think one is "Dotties", that I have made before and it's pretty good.

No reason that you can't have chili, but you may need to tweak it a bit.

I make chili but I cut back on the tomatoes and use canned enchilada sauce. I know it sounds weird but it's the closest thing I've found to tasting like real chili with the fewest carbs. That with a little chicken or beef broth. I also don't add beans. You could add zucchini, mushrooms, cauliflower, or any other veggie you like to bulk it up!

Dotties is the best. I never thought I would like chilli without bean, but now that the way I prefer it. That you & doesn't have tomato juice, you use beef broth.

I don't mean this to be snarky, but how are you going to succeed on 'your plan' if you are not even sure what you can and can't eat?

Why not just follow Atkins? Then you can read the book and know *exactly* what you should be eating at all times! Seems like it would make life much easier...

Three carbs per 1/4 can x 3 cans = 36 carbs just for the sauce. Probably zero carbs for the meat (assuming just ground beef), but you'll have to add carbs for the amount of onions you use (5.5 carbs per 1/2 cup raw). How big are these cans of sauce? How much meat and onion are you using? In other words, how many servings of chili are you going to get out of it when you're done? Personally, when I'm trying to stay around 20 carbs a day, I try to limit a serving of an entree to, say, 6 carbs. So if you end up with, say, 50 carbs for the whole pot but you can get 8 to 10 servings out of it, that would work on my plan. But if you're at 50 carbs and it's two servings . . . not so much.

It's just a math problem. You tote up the carbs in the ingredients, divide by the number of servings, and decide if the per serving carb cost is something you can live with.

i love chili and use the same recipe as i have for decades but w/o the beans;

saute onion, celery and green pepper.
add a can of crushed tomatoes and water to your desired consistency.
stir in a couple tsp of ground cumin (i grind it fresh), a couple Tbsp of chili powder (more if desired) and a couple bay leaves. this is a good time to sprinkle in some red chili flakes.
salt and pepper
simmer it for 15 minutes then crumble a pound of raw, ground beef right into it.
continue to simmer on low til the beef is done.
adjust the seasonings and add hot sauce.

Black soybeans are relatively low carb, high fiber (8g/7g per half cup), and high protein (11g). I don't eat soy products often, and usually save these for brownies or carrot cake, but they would certainly be good in chili. They have a mild, innocuous flavor.

This is what I had for dinner last night. It is low carb and GOOD. OP, please try this chili sometime, I guarantee you will not regret it. It is so easy to make and you will stay easily within your carb budget!

I use a 10 oz can of Rotel (that's all I can find) and it still works out just fine.
