Working out how much protein to eat

I read somewhere that you need to eat 1- 1.4 grams of protein per kilo of weight. Does this mean actual "weight on the scales" grams?

I weight 115 kilos but I can tell you that a simple steak is around 200gm. What am I not understanding here?

You shouldn't overdo protein, but on a LC diet you should get your energy from fat.
According to Barry Groves, etc..your protein requirements aren't as much as you think.
Most women unless they are very tall and body builders should eat between 60-90+ grams of protein a day. A simple steak that had 200 grams of protein would weigh 30 ounces. Go to ****** for the exact measurements, but usually there are 6-7 grams of protein in an ounce of meat.

The weight of the steak is not all protein though. It's protein and fat. You can't do a straight conversion of weight and assume that is the protein content. Yes, an 8 oz steak is approximately 200 gms but it is only 40-60 gms of protein depending on the fat content of the meat. Does that make sense?

There are varying ideas of how much protein we need so I don't know what to tell you. There are several different "formulas" but I'm not sure which is correct or if any of them are. I do think it's important to get enough and plenty of fat as well. I usually take in less than 100 grams protein but it can fluctuate pretty wildly from 50g to 150g depending on what I'm in the mood to eat or just how things work out. If I had to guess I would say I average about 95g a day.

I currently go by 1-1.2 grams per kilo, so I eat 60-70 grams a day, and never too much at one sitting. Usually 3-4 ounces of meat is a portion for me.

yeah I think I'm confused by protein grams and actual weight grams. I worked out that what I call 200gm of raw uncooked steak is 7 ounces of weight.

Protein Power has a formula to figure out your minimum protein requirement. More is fine but you should never go under that amount.

It is really pretty difficult to get too much protein despite all the comments about it on LC boards. I've been on fat burning programs before that required 1.5g protein per current weight.
