Wellbutrin is one of the only antidepressants that does not have weight gain as a side-effect. If you have to pick one that is the one to pick. I have taken it for 15 years and will take it till the day I die. It's been a true miracle for me given that most of my massive weight gains over my life seem to have been the direct result of antidepressants and their side effects.

You may find it slightly stimulating so watch for issues with sleep. When we become sleep-deprived it can be harder to be vigilant with our food plans.

Good luck!

Jacki, yep Wellbutrin helped me to quit too. I owe a lot to that drug (oops, we aren't supposed to say anything nice about Big Pharma around here so I had better shut up now, lol)

I've been quit for a very long time but I was watching a movie last weekend that had a lot of smoking it in and I had to turn it off. It set off cravings something terrible! I was so shocked! For me it is so true that once a smoker, always a smoker. 1 is too many and 1000 are not enough! Addiction really sucks.

I will add that I had to do nicotine replacement with the Wellbutrin to find ultimate success. If you continue to struggle you may want to try that. Studies indicate that the most success is found using these two drugs together. Hopefully the Wellbutrin will do it for you though. Good luck! You are doing a good thing for yourself.

Just keep trying! On average it takes 8 GOOD tried for a smoker to finally quit so each honest attempt is at least one step closer to victory. Keep going and you will win this!!

Yes, I have heard the wellbutrin is great for not adding pounds. I took "pack it on" Paxil and in one month I gained 8 pounds! It was so hard to lose it too. That was 2 years ago and I am still trying to get the last 3 pounds off!! UGH.

I swear Paxil was the worst! I took it for years and that's when I gained 100+ lbs. This was years ago and at the time, however, my choice was fat or dead so I choose fat. Of course for some Paxil is a miracle drug so it's all good.

While I haven't been on it for a while, I was for years. Wellbutrin will always have a place in my heart. It didn't cause any weight gain and, if anything, it helped with losing because I had more energy and was more stable, mood wise. It helped me quit smoking. It also helped me get off of anti-depressants entirely, with the lack of horrible side effects and withdrawls (that I experienced previously with Prozac that I was on for years before the Wellbutrin). Wellbutrin is a wonderful tool for many and I will support it till I'm blue in the face. And this is from a gal who doesn't even like to medicate headaches.

My mom was on Paxil for years and experienced nothing but trouble. She's on Wellbutrin now, too (and happy as a clam at high tide), and swears that anyone who was involved in developing and marketing Paxil is going to hell. But yes, like with most drugs, some are more effective for some people than they will be for others.

I am on wellbutrin and losing. It is helping me so much. I am extremely grateful for it. I have noticed that it is serving as a sort of appetite suppressant and I am not hungry and do not have the cravings I used to have. So far, I love this stuff!

Paxil is bad. Its a "Dirty Drug" Did you have any bad effects coming off of it? I had to take it because I started having anxiety attacks. In the matter of 6 months, I got married, BIL killed himself, I had a misscarriage, my husband started college, and we were broke and I had to sell my motorcyle( this part wasnt THAT bad, just disheartening). TOO MUCH to deal with. Anways, after a month of taking paxil I was able to chill out and get back to normal again. I had horrible withdrawls for 2 weeks though. I even weined myself off very slowly. I had horrible nightmares, hallucinations (visual and audible), vetigo, electrical type shooting feelings from head to toe. Oh my gosh it was bad. I couldnt sit down longer than 3 minutes without feeling like I was going to freak out! LOL Apparently I'm not very fond of this medicine. HEHE

I can't say that thought hasn't crossed my mind before. I've never really come to terms with my feelings on this one. While this drug saved my life it cost me so much. It gave me life but robbed me of it at the same time. Is this stuff still around? I hope not. Well, unless it's a last resort I guess.

The hallucinations got pretty bad after I started the Lexapro.

Although the going up 2 bra sizes from the Risperdal rocks!

I'm finding this thread helpful, because I plan to ask my doc for an antidepressant next month. That last one was pretty vicious.

I took it to quit smoking and it worked very well. But I found when I tried to get off of it, the cravings for sweets were horrible.

So I will stay on it.

I developed an allergy, or I'd still be on Lexapro.

That's the nice thing about being me, I know I can NEVER go off medication. No chance at all...

I tried to go off the Risperdal and I saw flying saucers in my bedroom. For Real.

I'm right there with you, sister!

Yes, Wellbutrin will actually help you lose weight. I loved the stuff for the three weeks I was on it. Then on the 21st day I broke out in horrible hives.

All of that stuff is hard to get off, but wow! You really had a bad time of it! I take Zoloft and that stuff packs on the pounds as well. I put on about 20 pounds after I started using that. The rest of the weight, well... I have to take the credit for that!

I started Wellbutrin, in part because of this thread, about 2 weeks ago.

I've lost about 3 pounds.
