Fat Calories

Hello,

I have approximately 20 pounds to lose. I am wondering if fat calories are more important the less you have to lose. In that you have to be more careful about the daily fat intake?

I think I actually lose more when I limit my fat, but this would also lower calories.

Any help I would appreciate or perhaps theads,

Thank you.

Fat is your friend, and, frankly, I found I consume less calories with fat because it has the longest staying power. Bacon over carrots, baby!

I recommend reading 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution and take his advice to heart. You won't regret it. Fat is your friend, pleases the pleasure sensors in your brain, makes you feel you had something decadent, and helps temper the blood sugar reactions that tend to stem from some of the starchier vegetables out there.

In other words, don't avoid fat. Become friends with the dietary kind to kick the thigh kind to the curb.

Fat (and protein) can satisfy your hunger cravings. Besides, it can make your food taste better, too.

While I agree with the above posters, DANDR 2002 also says that as you increase the number of carbs (later phases of OWL, Maintenance), you will need to reduce the amount of fat. HOWEVER, only in good time; like Cleo and Nitebreeze have noted, you need fat to successfully.

IMHO total calories is very critical. I eat foods that keep me the fullest on the least amount of calories (best bang of my calorie buck). My food preferences keep me in the 1100-1500 cal range and naturally comes in at 50-60% fat, 30-35% protein, and 5-10% vegetable carbs. To me, volume helps me feel satiated, so I eat a ton of salads with fatty meats or use the drippings as dressing. I like fat, but I feel there is no need to add more or over do it...well except for a pat of butter on my ribeye.

Oh, for defs, Marvin! I just wanted to keep it simple for the vast unwashed in Atkins.

I was fortunate to be raised in the 80's in a high-fat counterculture. My dad was an Atkineer since I was like 14. I can only imagine the horrors most of America suffers at the thought of not rinsing off your bacon prior to eating it.

*shudder*
