is CLA/GLA a woman thing?

I was reading about all these great benifits of CLA/GLA today on the board. Then I was at Walmart, I thought I would see how much the suplements were. All of the suplements were labled as women health.

I really dont know what they are, or what they are for...other than what I have seen on this site. Anyone able to give me the readers digest version? Thanks.

CLA or conjugated linoleic acid is supplied us by grass fed beef/dairy. It is a fatty acid that is said to most specifically work to reduce stomach fat. In studies, most subjects took more than 2-3 gr per day. Basically, it works to more efficientyly utilize your dietary fat. There are a lot of inferior products on the market all made from vegetable oils. I think spending your money on clean meats is more valuable and therefore you're getting the most superior form of CLA......another interesting point, when someone tells you there are trace trans fats in your butter, beef and dairy, you can tell them that's the only GOOD trans fat because it converts to CLA.

GLA or Gamma Linoleic Acid is an essential fatty acid, omega 6. It is delivered in three forms, borage, evening primrose and black currant. It is most specifically helpful for women's hormonal health. I increase my evening primrose oil to 2000 mg. 2 weeks prior to my cycle for pms reduction.

So, that's the simple version without going into what converts, etc. If you would like to really get into the fats etc, check out Weston A. Price Foundation

I eat grass fed beef 2-3 times a week (or more). Is this enough to get the CLA my body needs? Would it be overdoing it to take CLA supps too?

clutterbug, you're getting it! It's not something that is required daily like our water soluble vitamins/nutrients.
