Food Indifference?

Does anyone ever get to the point where things you used to eat don't sound good any longer?

I've lost my cravings for a lot of my low carb favorites.

Nothing sounds good, I'm a little hungry sometimes, but I run through my head all of the things I could make for dinner and NOTHING sounds remotely appetizing.

Yep, happened to me a couple weeks ago. I had no intentions of going off plan, but was so bored with all my LC foods I usually eat. I went in the recipe room and on Lindas site and tried some different recipes out for fun, got through the week, and I'm back to loving my simple foods again.

You're right, I need to try some more recipes. I love to cook!

I'm a simple food girl too. Taco salads, bunless burgers, roasted chicken, etc.

yes, I was gonna say that, too... I always go look for a new recipe if I'm bored with what I'm eating.

Sometimes if nothing sounds all that good to me, I make a soup. I don't even follow a recipe; I just start throwing things in a pot and somehow I get creatively inspired. It's something different, and also I find it fun to make them.

The key sometimes is to spice it up. Just start pouring on the chili hot sauce!

I'm kind of confused about whether you mean pre-plan or post-plan. It sounds like you mean both..?

Hi Zgrl...
Only when I get lazy and in a rut and don't vary my food choices enough - and eat the same thing too many times in too short a time...

Then I take a break from them and obsess over something else, and the old feelings for whatever I was disinterested comes back into view...

With the wide selection of proteins animal and vegetable, plug all the fresh "live" veggies, I really can't see much boredom with VLC. Frankly when I lived with high carb but limited severely animal protein, that seemed more restrictive than currently. Can you tell I'm really enjoying it now???

I totally enjoy it, but sometimes I eat the same things over and over and feel a sudden urge to have something different than the usual stuff.

The cooler weather has made me hungry for soup again. Will have to hunt down some good low carb soup recipes. Cream of crab sounds pretty good! If I wanted a potatoey type addition, would turnips or something else work best?

I buy frozen rutabagas (turnips) - already pre-diced - they work great in soup.

One of my favorite soups is pot roast soup. Make a pot roast, and have that the first night. Save all the braising liquid, add some more broth to it, a ton of veggies, and shred the remaining beef for a soup. SO good!

I also sometimes make this asian soup, similar to won ton. Get ground pork, and season it liberally with garlic, ginger, Thai chili sauce, a touch of splenda, and a beaten egg. Bring some chicken stock up to a simmer with minced fresh garlic and ginger, and a touch of soy sauce in it. Form the ground pork into meatballs, and drop into the broth to cook. Julienne some snow peas, red bell peppers, napa cabbage & scallions, and add those to just cook for a minute. It tastes like wonton soup, but no noodles.

I haven't tried rutabagas or turnips yet. But I did buy a can of butternut squash today and plan to make a soup with that sometime soon. It has 10 net grams per 1/2 cup so we'll see what I come up with as far as serving sizes, etc.

Sometimes I have made a soup with chicken thighs, coconut milk and curry, and red bell peppers and scallions. Really tasty. Oh, and cilantro and lime juice!
