The Thin Commandments ... Yay or Nay?

So I've seen this book mentioned before. Was just wondering what people's thoughts are on it. Did you like it? Not like it? Was it helpful? Anything new?

I read some reviews about it - some loved it; some said that "Thin Tastes Better" is a better buy.

Would love to hear thoughts on it, before I buy (yet another) food/diet-focused book.

Thanks!

No one's read this book? Really? Does this mean it's a real winner? LOL

Huh, I hadn't heard of it. Looking it up, I see that a lot of his "commandments" are right in line with my own inclinations.

I absolutely love the little excerpt I just read about "baby talk" regarding food. I can't cut and paste it from Amazon, but he nailed that concept right to the wall if you ask me.

In this interview he talks about his commandments--and a little further down the page, he discusses "diet baby talk".

I have the book and it is really a good read. Lots of people here have read it and follow a lot of the principals. It is one of the books in my collection that I go back and look at when I need a reality check.

From what I have seen, it sounds very reality-based, homestretch! Just what I love!

Thanks for bringing this book to my attention, Angie.

Thanks homestretch and peanutte. From the reviews I've read (and a few things I've seen on LCF about it), it seems that the people who like this book really love it. I couldn't find it at my local Borders, so I would have to order it. I just wanted some opinions on it from people I "see" regularly on LCF before I did that.

I ordered it from Amazon and it was pretty cheap. I have had it for over a year.

I'm going to get myself a copy. I think something outside of Atkins might perk up my attitude just for a change of pace (much as I love Atkins).

I didn't see the thread before this or I would have commented. Sorry.

I bought the book a couple of years ago and I just loved it when I read it. I don't remember a lot of what he talked about, except for staying away from trigger foods, keeping those type of foods out of the house so you can't be tripped up by them. Each one of the commandments made so much sense when you are trying to win the weight battle.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone. Got mine on Amazon also.

Thanks lindaokc and homestretch. Good to know!

You know, peanutte, I was hoping this book would be something I could use in conjunction with LC. [Like... "No, Angie, you can't eat a 1/2 slab of ribs or 8oz of ribeye (not that I would know anything about that) along with two other full, big meals at this weight, even if you do 'want it,' and still lose"]

He sounds pretty low-carb friendly except for that fact that he uses low-fat dairy. But I like his attitude.

I've read it -- I thought it was absolutely GREAT on the psychological elements of dieting/maintenance -- wonderful suggestions and tools for self-assessment. The actual diet plan is nothing anyone here would really want to follow. But it's a book I think is well worth reading.

I always thought diet 'baby talk' was breakky (breakfast) yogie (yogurt) and din din (dinner).

Thanks Prairieprof and C&C!

I never keep trigger foods (i.e. chips) in the house, not even for my DH and stepson. I cannot control myself around them. I would like to find ways to deal with them at work/vending machines. I mean, I know I shouldn't have them, but (here comes the 'baby talk') I want them. *stomps feet*
