Pick the breading off deep fried fish?

Wow, I haven't posted on here in a very long time, though I'm often lurking.

I've been taking advice from several low-carb sources, including "Neris and India's Idiot-Proof Diet" (I live in the UK, and it's more focused on UK foods). One of the later sections in the book discusses getting around unplanned or social situations that might derail you, especially restaurants, etc. They mention doing things like taking the skin off fried chicken, and only eating the filling of pork pies.

DH bought some frozen breaded fish the other day and eventually we're going to have to fix it for dinner. At the moment I'm on day 5 of an induction restart, so of course I'm going to avoid the fish for as long as possible. But I'm wondering how much of the 25g of carbs in each piece of fish is breading, and how much the carb count might go down if I just eat the fish itself. I'm not really all that keen on the breading anyway, so I won't be all that tempted to give in and eat it.

Do you think it would be okay after I'm done with induction?

I have issues getting all the breading off of something like fish or chicken tenders, if I have to resort to that. It's pretty easy with like, KFC

I feel like I'd need to wash it, which is just too wierd

I don't want you going to a weird mental space with your dieting behavior. It's ok to take off the bread and eat it if that's going to be easier than just not eating it. That's a lifestyle choice, but don't get too caught up in how many carbs might be left after the de-breading. Really ask yourself which is better for your whole lifestyle, de-breading it or just not eating it. Either choice is fine if you answer honestly, but don't worry about the numbers so much.

I have 3 eggs sprinkled with nutritional yeast.

That's a good question. It would lower the carbs if you remove the breading. I would do it in an emergency situation. When we moved everyone in my family wanted KFC so I removed the skin, yeah it was higher carbs than I would eat normally but I was so hungry and needed food, nothing lc there to eat at all, I only ate chicken.

It's not really an obsessed-with-carbs thing to consider picking off the breading. Just, as you say, an "emergency" (though I could fix something else for me, I guess!). But since this week has been the first time I have ever managed to stick to induction without cheating, I'd kind of like to avoid unecessary carbs wherever possible. Shockingly I think I have already dropped several pounds in 4 days (maybe 10? I think my starting weight might have been off, though) so I'm starting to hope that this might be that magical first-time effort when the pounds drop off relatively easily.

By the way, am I totally blind, or is there a place for newbies to post? I've been signed up for a long time but since I'm starting over in earnest, I feel like I should maybe introduce myself again.

ONLY in an EMERGENCY situation, friend...

aside, from making a mess of the filet itself, it would be quite a test of character to resist eating all that yummy breading. if u are fine with that, u earn my respect and admiration.(incidentally, at home, i use pulverized pork rinds as my breading for any item i wish to bread. i just add the seasonings of my choice to the egg mixure). Fish itself has no carbs. Shellfish does have a few.

If you want to eat it after scraping off all the breading, that's a choice. Another choice would be to cook it for him and cook yourself something plain. Just because you have it in your house does not mean you are obligated to eat it.

I took a couple of calamari rings out of their breaded coating one time, and they were very easy to separate without anything sticking to them. I also have eaten the filling of a duck wonton while leaving the wrapper aside.

Performing surgery on my food is not something I would often do, but I don't mind wasting a wrapper or the breading since I don't want to eat it.

Another option is to return it, I have returned plenty of things even if it's open if it's not right for you.
