Pocket snacks?
Hi folks. On Thursdays I spend a long day at the clinic and am on my feet until at least 7 pm if not later. This means I don't get to eat dinner until I get home after 8 or so. What sort of snacks fit well into a pocket that I can sneak in between patients that won't be so noticeable but still fill me up until dinner? I'm currently on induction if this makes a difference.
Thanks! |

Atkins bars, nuts, sunflower seeds, pepperoni. I think it's hormel? Not sure but they have snack size pepperoni now they are cut small and come in little individual baggies. Perfect! They are a little more pricey but worth it to me...

The local butcher shop will cut 1/4 inch slabs of meat and cheeses, then stack and cut again to make snack sticks. Much easier to deal with than making a sandwich (and I can't always afford the Ezekiel bread). I currently have pepper jack cheese and jalapeno loaf.
I would prefer to be able to cook, but the communal kitchen upstairs is "perpetually icky". |

You can't keep meat and cheese in your pocket for an extended period. Or an Atkins bar for that matter. I would suggest nuts. Almonds, macademia, even peanuts, though they are a little higher carb - all very satisfying and filling. And drink lots of water. and then drink some more. |

Dry roasted almonds with sea salt are my friends. I always take a little baggie with me whereever we go, just in case...
The boiled eggs in the pocket would be an interesting experience! LOL - might be a little stinky after a few hours too! |

Scotch Eggs keep well, and they're fine in a ziplock bag. Also good cold.

I also spend long days seeing patients and dont get out until late.
I really dont know of many snacks that sit for long periods of time in the pocket, other than nuts or jerky. What I do: We do have a refrigerator. I put things like a single meat and cheese roll up into a plastic baggie. A small plastic container of cheese cubes. Small plastic containers of egg salad or cut up fruit (I'm on maintenance). If I have more time, I will stand in front of the frig, eat 3 bites of the egg salad or whatever. If I have less time, I grab a plastic baggie with the rollup in it and eat it while walking. I also put small portions of drinks in there, ready to grab and go. Almond milk is a latest fav to grab to drink. But also just diet soda or water. |

Have you ever heard of pemmican? It is food the native americans made to store meat for extended periods.
It is essentially over-dried beef jerky pulverized and mixed with fat, then allowed to "set up". You can make it easily (just google, or check out my method on the ZC thread over in other plans). I confess it does not taste "super great", but I like it...it is beefy lol. but it has fat AND protein and nothing else that you don't add in yourself. (probably you'd want to keep it in a baggie, though) HTH
