7 weeks in so far
Hello all.. this my 3rd go with Atkins and seem to be hitting a wall with weight loss. I am down 6.5 pounds after 7 weeks.
My atkins rotation consists of : egg whites/cheese/sausage ground turkey or beef and cheese simetimes with spinach and hot sauce salad with no croutons or tomatoes chicken with cheese shrimp with cheese tuna fish with mayo and no carb dill pickle relish talipa with mayo and no carb pickle relish cheese low carb tortillas [about 4 carbs after I take away the portion wo melted cheese] no more than 1 a day I drink a lot of the Atkins shakes [probably 2 day-either choc or van] I feel I am consistenly under the 20 carb figure each day. I do drink a lot of diet soda.. approx 40 oz a day. I also drink flavored water [Aquafina Flavor Splash] and crystal light. I certainly could be drinking more water. Is this diet soda consumption a real obstacle to losing additional weight? I also run about 4 miles 3 times a week on soft sand at the beach. My portion size could also be a contributor to wall. Just looking for tips on additional things I could be doing or changes on items as noted above. I felt the first time I did atkins that as long as I kept it within the 20 carbs per day goal I would continue to drop weight of 2-3 pounds for the first few months but not so much this time out. First time probably lost 18 pounds. FYI- I am 37 male and 225 currently. looking to drop just another 5-8 pounds... this difference will do wonders for my knees and getting into some of those tighter fitting clothes I keep telling my wife I will be wearing soon. |

If you think your portion size may be too big, they probably are. Remember it's not just about keeping carbs low but about eating just enough to satisfy your hunger, not stuff yourself. If you are eating past the point where your hunger is relieved, you are eating too much, and even if it is low carb you will not lose the way you want to that way. You should not be hungry after eating a low carb meal, but you shouldn't eat more than it takes to satisfy your hunger.
Also some people can't lose much at all if they use the shakes. Too many sugar alcohols. Last edited by poopsie2223; 10-12-2009 at 07:59 PM.. |

I would drop the LC tortillas and shakes.
The first time I tried to LC I thought I could eat all kinds of frankenfoods as long as they were low carb, didn't work. Also the crystal light. I don't know why but it seems to stall so many people, including myself, but I can have artificial sweetners in anything else. Last edited by MsWoods; 10-12-2009 at 10:13 PM.. |

Also, I notice a lot of your food has cheese... This could be something that makes losing weight more difficult... Make sure that you only eat 4 ounces of cheese a day.
I am a total cheese addict, love it, but it stalls me too... So I eat feta cheese (does not stall me) and use strong mature cheddars, parmesan and mature gouda. They have a lot of flavour, and even only 4 ounces a day goes a long way.... Good luck and well done on your journey so far! ![]() |

Most of your carbs should be coming from vegetables rather than shakes/low carb tortillas.
The soda is definately problematic, if for no other reason than they're chemicals you are putting in your body. Plus, you're only allowed 3 servings of artificial sweetener a day. Try to drink more water and less soda. As you cut the sweet stuff out, you'll want it less and less. Last edited by HerBoudoir; 10-13-2009 at 05:14 AM.. |

update after 3 days
I dropped the Atkins shakes and LC tortillas and had no cheese on 2 days and only a small bit on day 3 and was able to see a drop of 4.5 more lbs. Also limited the soda to 24 oz.. gotta have my soda.
thanks for the advise. |

I'm convinced that diet soda is evil.

I'm not seeing alot of green veggies on your list. I know that for me, I lose much better when I don't forget to add my broccoli (sp?) each night with my dinner. I am also guilty of using the tortillas and shakes, but I only have one of the tortillas once per week or less, and I do drink a shake every morning, but for some reason I still lose ok on the shakes. Maybe try limiting the cheese also. I know that stalls alot of people.
Let us know how it goes! |

When I started in 2003 I couldn't get the lc shakes, bars, milk, cereals + I lost my weight FAST. I was forced to eat clean. Since then we have a good supply at select stores so I try + limit them for emergency use + that seems to work out great for me. The lc alternatives seem to stall quite a few people.
