Expiration dates on Diet Coke

Anyone know what the dates are on the bottom of Diet Coke? DH picked some up couple days ago. I drank one today and noticed it was kinda flat- looked at the bottom of the can and it is dated September 7. If this is an expiration date, then how can the grocery stores sell it? I've looked all over the carton and cannot find a date. Well what good is that putting the dates on the can if you cannot find out the date without opening a carton

OK I did find a date on the end in a tiny box dated Sept. 7. I called the grocer to see why they were still being sold and he told me it is Coca-Cola's responsibility to pull those and it must have been an oversight. He also told me he would exchange them if I bring my receipt in.
