Uhm, a question.....TMI alert!

So, I've done low carb about 3 times, all losing considerable amounts of weight. The last time I lost 75 pounds, which enabled me to get pregnant...and well here I am again after gaining too much during the pregnancy.

Alot of people complain about constipation, but I am having the EXTREME opposite effect over here. Every time I eat....it's almost instant. Less than an hour before I am heading to the....you know. There is no solidity AT ALL. Has anyone else experienced this?

To answer the questions I know will follow.....

No, I am not eating huge amounts of fat. Grilled chicken salads. Broccoli. Cheeses. Steamed veggies. ( I know, not alot of variety, but appetite is dwindling right now)

No, definitely not taking laxatives. Used to have a problem with abuse, so I stay very far away from them. Don't really trust myself with the "natural" stuff either...so no, nothing at all.

No, I am not eating any of the sugar free candies. Not drinking the sugar free drinks either.

Yes, I have been drinking aLOT of water....somewhere between 100 and 150 ounces of water a day. I am guessing that this is the culprit, just trying to get some input. Don't understand why it happens as soon as I eat.

Lastly, I am in ketosis....not sure if this plays a part. Everything I have read says that during ketosis, constipation is the norm.

Any input is appreciated. I mean it's not so bad that I am going to have an accident or anything, just curious if anyone else has experienced this.

I experienced brief diarrhea during the first week of induction - I think around day 4. Then the next day it was milder, and the day after that, gone.

Yes, I get ketosis-induced runs! The first time, I had it for 9 months straight until I got advice from a nutritionist at Atkins Nutritionals. Get yourself some Citrus Bioflavonoids (google it). That is the cure for keto-runs. I will never again go into ketosis without it.

I would cut back on the veggies. Personally, I have IBS and am very prone to diarrhea, no matter what I eat, but I find that eating fewer veggies - especially salad, anything very high in fiber, or anything uncooked - helps. I know veggies are healthy, but they are a disaster on my system. I stick mostly to proteins (meats, eggs) and fat.
Good luck

My gastro recommended taking fiber. (I was shocked--I thought that was only for constipation.) He told me that people who are wired "fast" like I am need something to slow them down enough for the colon to do it's job and remove all the water from the waste. If your food moves through too quickly, your intestines can't get their work done.

He advised I NOT take Metamucil--he says it causes bloating and gas. He recommended Fiber Con, but i use the Costco generic of it. It's not a drug, just fiber condensed into a pill form. It works great. I take 2 every day, and I'm always, always completely normal in the elimination department, for the first time EVER!

I second what verbqueen said.. I don't have a gallbladder and had that problem all the time no matter what always.. except for me it was within 20 minutes! ekk! Doctor gave me a prescription to a bulking agent but said if I ran out or forgot tot ake then to take a fibre supplement but not Metamucil. Worked like a charm. On a side note after doing LC for about a month I found the runs to the bathroom became less frequent and eventually disappeared all together. I actually take Magnesium now to make sure I'm regular!!

Huh, thats wierd. After I had Madden, I had gall stones so bad I thought I was having another baby (and I thought I was going to be rich if the hospital missed it). I had to have emergency surgery to get my gall bladder out. I wonder if that has an effect. Hmmmm, guess it could huh.

Oh Airica, I'm bumping into you everywhere Yes having no gall bladder can easily equal getting diarrhea often.. look it up online.. (my husband hates when I diagnose myself online hehehe) Anyway, there are several medicines that you can have prescribed in the USA to make this stop. I believe there is one that is in pill form that I cannot get here in Canada. I used to have a prescription for Cholestramine, though I might have spelled that wrong. It's a nasty, though SF, orange drink that you take once a day in the morning to bind to the bile that is collecting on your large (or was it small?) intestine that stops your body from being able to absorb fluids. Something like that. Anyway.. used to need it, worked wonders, but no longer take it after LCing for extended periods of time. Best of luck with it but definitely worth a mention to the doctor.

for some reason right now your stomach is emptying too quickly . the fiber should help slow it down and bulk up the food mass.

you might want to keep track of what foods you are eating and the results to see if possibly you are having a food intolerance issue.

I have always gotten that during ketosis and actually felt that was my body's way of getting rid of the fat. It hasn't happened this time and I felt like I was doing something wrong.

This is EXACTLY what happened to me. And I have had trouble when starting induction ever since. It's like my body can't keep up with the extra fat. It does get better, but there are some things (bacon, sausage) that I know I can't touch.

that's definitely it. It's called "dumping". I have had it since I got my gallbladder out 10 years ago!

the first time I did Atkins I had the same issue. I think it's the bodys way of dealing with the carbs/fat ratio all at once. As for me, I hate when it passes, since I am irregular-- while trying to lose weight? that sucks! I don't want ANYTHING in storage! lol
