I'm going off diet...
But not too far. I hope to be back on in 11 days.
I got a whole bunch of stupid health problems at once -- toothache, ear infection, etc. They pulled a tooth and it hurts to chew anything that isn't soft. I've been having to puree my induction meals. I'm also not getting enough fiber for regularity, even though I really try to, and all these meds are making it worse. And today my doctor told me to use yogurt everyday instead of probiotics. *sigh*So I picked up some yogurt that's 22g/cup. And oat bran. And hummus. Stuff like that. Even though I have an excuse to get ice cream and muffins now if I wanted, they didn't even sound good. So I'm just at a higher level for a couple of weeks, I guess. Still, I can't help feeling frustrated. I know this is going to put the weight right back on, and I'm going to be tempted to quit altogether. So I'm writing this here for accountability. Thanks for keeping me on track, you guys. Joy ![]() |

You really should consider Greek yogurt...only 6-9 grams carbs per cup and no added sugar, gums, preservatives or gelatin and loaded with protein. (I add Splenda and sugar-free jam). Scrambled eggs are also soft...and you can make great creamy soups with unsweetened almond milk too and your blender. (Cream of asparagus or broccolli...low carb and yummy!). There are so many other soft foods you can eat....Dixie diner hot cereals, sugar-free pudding, pureed pumkin, squash, califlower mashed mock "potatoes"...Point is, you don't have to veer totally off plan. I had an oral surgery a few years ago and could only eat soft foods (couldn't eat much at all, really) and hit my all-time lowest weight.

Im confused as to why you need to go off your plan?
Maybe a little higher carb by adding in things like greek yogurt but other than that why cant you have jello, scrambled eggs, tuna, protein shakes, etc? Just sayin' ![]() |

Please dont make this psychological on yourself. Meaning, dont make excuses why to go off plan. If you do that and justify it, then you will be making excuses for anything from "Im going off plan because Im going camping" to "Im going off plan because of TOM"
and hence the yo-yo dieter. You can do this!!!!!!!! |

None of the things suggested will help much with the fiber problem. I was barely regular before going on Atkins, even though I choked down every "Fiber Plus" thing I could. With 3g from pills and a few cups of veggies a day, I haven't 'gone' in over a week and haven't REALLY gone for a month. And now, all my digestive flora are dead....

I'm not going to try to talk you out of going off of LC, that's up to you.
But when and if you decide to go back on LC, fiber supplementation is very do-able and works like a charm. You can use psyllium (aka plain Metamucil) (cheap), enefiber clear (not cheap), or you can try acacia fiber, which I've been using. The brand is Heather's Tummy formula. It's more expensive than psyllium, cheaper than Benefiber. Good luck to you, and I wish you the best digestive health! p.s. (I almost forgot - flax meal! Super good for you in addition to having lots of fiber Last edited by La Bruja; 08-26-2009 at 04:04 PM.. Reason: p.s. |

There are quite a few LCbers who will tell you that the addition of fiber binds them up much more. Search the threads and you may find some threads. I think LuvsFromAbove has a problem with additional fiber causing more problems.
How much water do you drink? Try adding magnesium and you will go the next day without meesing with your system. It is also essential for your heart. |

I'll get some magnesium in addition to my multivitamin. Is that the one that makes you sleepy? Also will look up the threads, thanks. |

If fiber is the problem that's easy to get. I eat a mixture of wheat bran, oat bran, oatmeal and protein powder as a hot cereal every morning (I mix in pumpkin) and it does the trick. You can stir powdered fibers into soups and liquids, into yogurt, etc. (I like powdered Ztrim best, it doesn't have ummm, bad "side effects" of other fiber supplements)
Not to mention, there are plenty of great low-carb, high protein tortillas, crackers, and breads now on the market. Shiritaki noodles are also good, zero carbs and cals, soft and made of pure glucommanan fiber. You can even pulverize it in the blender and add it to hot cereals, soups and puddings. |

Magnesium at night has worked wonders for many. I understand it is also important to get enough fat... coconut oil in egg cream could do the trick there. ETA: Make it a pumpkin egg cream and you're golden! Pumpkin is good for what you're having a problem with.

Day 1 off plan: Hungry more often and a bit more urgently. Got low grade headache until I ate more carbs. Ketostix still at large..?
I'm not planning on making this a blog or anything. I just thought it was interesting how lousy I feel on top of the rest of the lousiness. Thanks, guys, for the advice on magnesium. TMI: I had to break out the toilet plunger. ![]() Last edited by Joy-FL; 08-28-2009 at 12:54 AM.. |

Hey I also wanted to recommend the MIM or One Minute Muffin for your plan, either now or in the future. There are tons of recipes for it, but it'll give 1/4 of flax meal, which I believe is like 7g of fiber. It's WONDERFUL!
Yogurt wise - I know greek can be expensive, but even just plan yogurt, full fat is less than 22g per serving. I add splenda to mine when I eat it. I want to also recommend protein shakes! Especially if you have a blender (I love the Bullet Blender myself) - a scoop of protein, 7 or 8 ice cubes, about 2-3oz of water, a splash of cream...instant milk shake and only 3 carbs (this will depend on your protein of course!). The other thing...if you monitor your calories you my find you don't put on weight. I know when I "need" to eat higher carb, if I really watch my calories then I don't put on weight, or if I do, it ends up being water weight and comes right off. I bet pureed veggie soup would be good too...or the Atkins Cream of Mushroom soup on the atkins website - GREAT recipe! Oh and egg salad - that should go down nicely. |
