Greens and Whey

ok I have to say I started using these shakes the other day..

I bought one in vanilla and one in chocolate.
THESE ARE AMAZING! OMG! SO THICK AND CREAMY! with just water!
I deff think these are the best shakes I have ever had.. hands down..
They say that they are not made to replace a meal (100 calories per shake) so I add them to my eggcream and cut out an egg.
for the record, with out any ice, my straw stands straight up in the shake..

I got it at wholefoods and quite honestly the only reason I bought them is cause they have the lowest carb count! (1carb for 2 scoops of vanilla, and 2 carbs for 2 scoops of chocolate)
I'd love for some others to look at the nutritional values and give me your imput on what you think.. and deff give it a try..

You need adequate protein to build muscle. 100% Greens & Whey powder contains 100% pure Ultra-Filtered/Micro-Filtered (UF/MF) Whey Protein Isolate. The Micro-Filtration method isolates the natural whey proteins in a highly concentrated form without fat or lactose providing the quickest and most easily absorbed form of protein- no bloating, gas or stomach upset. High BCAA levels send fuel directly to your muscles while supporting positive nitrogen balance for muscle growth.

Adequate nutrition keeps the body healthy. The 100% Greens & Whey blend provides phytonutrients which offer the purest form of nutrition.

Free radicals are a side effect of exercise. They are formed when oxygen interacts with other molecules-- endurance exercise can increase oxygen utilization over a resting state. Free radicals lead to cell damage in the body tissue including muscle. Antioxidants are nature’s defense against these agents. Your body has a defense system of antioxidants that neutralize free radicals. Help build that defense with our Proprietary Organics Greens Blend which provides strong antioxidant support.

Organic Alfalfa Leaf Juice Powder and Organic Barley Grass Juice Powder are rich in chlorophyll and along with other nutrients play an important role in supporting the digestive processes and nutrient assimilation.

Hawaiian Spirulina draws nutrients from Pacific deep water. No other Spirulina is grown with such a rich nutrient source. It is highly digestible and provides a wide range of delicate phytonutrients which play an important role in helping the body combat environmental stressors. Organic Sun Chlorella, Organic Broccoli Sprout and Sea Buckthorn also provide excellent nutrient sources.**

Hmmm, interesting, I will check them out.

I tried their "protein bar" once and OMG, it was the nastiest bar I've ever tasted. And I am NOT picky about most bars, I swear. *shudder*

I've got to run by the store this afternoon, so I'm going to check for this and give it a go. Hopefully, they'll have the single serve envelopes so I can try before I buy....

Unfortunately, I don't have a WF that close to me (I'm going during my lunch break). I shop at Central Market, and from what I understand they're similar. I'm really hoping they have it.

I googled greens and whey and I came up with Biochem. The info on their website matched what OurLuvs posted, so I think that's it.

ok so I was researching where I can get this closer to home (wholefoods is in manhattan and im in bklyn) and I noticed that its actually made by country life and biochem is like a brand name of country life.

Netrition sells some country life products.. this would be great if they could carry there low carb shakes from this company.. I can't really wait to try the others.. they make a berries and whey that is 3 carbs, and a few other _______ and whey and even low carb whey, that the carb counts are very low..
these are really great shakes! hubbys sold too!

nice product Kerry.....I like some of the booster nutrients in there like spirulina, chlorella and especially broccoli sprouts.

I use a green powder similar to this when traveling.

Thanks Fawn!! I was hoping you'd pop in here and offer your opinion too. Nutritionally a-ok and tastes good too. I've got to get some.

I have some and it may be the closest I ever get to Fawn's shake but I really have to choke it down. Not near as tasty as Jay Robb's but much better for you, I'm sure.

Thats so funny, cause I have tried and tried to like jay robb shakes and I hate them lol. But I don't just mix these shakes w water cause I'm using them to suppliment meals. So I'm mixing with coconut or almond milk, some times some extra coco powder or some flavored extracts, some extra sweetner, and 2 raw eggs..

Last night for hubby I mixed 1 raw egg, 2 scoops or powder, some chocolate sugar free almond milk, teaspoon cocoa powder, some liquid stevia, and some cold water, blemded well I'm my magic bullet.. it was just like chocolate cake batter, even the texture! I loved it, so did he... lol

I recommend green drinks to my veggie haters all the time......it's the baby steps to veggies I tell them......

I think Jay Robb has a bit of an after taste and it's too sweet to me but I believe it to be the best whey supplement out there besides the vital scoop which is incredibly expensive.

Fawn,
I have a bottle of greens powder from vitamin shoppe that has an expiration date of 4/09 on it. Do you think it is still good. It is a good powder and has a lot of the ingredients listed in the green whey protein powder. It was quite pricey as I remember it and would like to just add this to my protein shakes if it is still good. Thanks Jeanie

You should be fine Jeannie. Expiration dates on supplements while should be ahered to, do not pose any danger. I would say the one thing that might be questionable would be your probiotic CFU's changed with the expiration date.

AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME! Thanks for the recommendation! They were on sale today at my local Whole Foods so I bought two cannisters based on this thread and just had my first smoothie tonight. I'm SO GLAD I bought these! This was by far the thickest and creamiest "green" shake that I've ever had. Definitely going to be a breakfast staple going forward.

I found the Greens & Whey too. I really like it, so it's going to be a staple for me as well. I kind of wanted to try the Berries & Whey, but they were sold out of that one.

I have to say I tried a "green" shake this morning for the first time and loved it.

Something to the effect of:

2 handsful of spinach
1 stalk of celery
1 bunch of parsley
handful of bing cherries pitted
1 kiwi
2 oz of aloe vera juice
2 T of clorophyll
2 T of psyllium husks

It was good....I used Fawns basic recipe, but utlized the fruits/veggies that I had on hand.

I drank it and it was really really good.

&

I just posted on the VITAMIX thread, my 4 year old granddaughter came over this evening and I made her a shake....she needs more veggies in her diet. I didn't want to overwhelm her or take a chance on upsetting her tummy, so...

1 handful of spinach
1 handful of strawberries
some light Almond milk
a splash of Davinci SF vanilla syrup

Mixed and gave it to her....she loved it and wanted more, but I had to stop her...said we'd try it again next time she was over. She said that she couldn't believe I put "leaves" in her milk shake....

I think the key is to start small with the greens.....but I was fine with the way I did it this morning and Amberlee was fine with fairly equal amounts of spinach and strawberries.
