Tortillas?
Hi guys!
I am new here. I am in day 4 of Atkins Induction (not doing it 100 percent by the book, but pretty darn close) and I feel great! I am 36, and I live in WA state. I have about 30 stubborn pounds to lose - currently at 152 - so, here I go! Anyway - do you guys know what the brand of tortillas are that has the absolute lowest "total carbohydrate according to the label" count? (Not net or impact carbs or any of that, but, total carbs?) I read that Mama Lupes lo carb tortillas have 7 "total carb" grams which is pretty darn low. Anything lower? I crave something "similar" (LOL) to a tortilla so I can make some fresh chicken wraps for work at lunch, yum!! Thanks! Happy Sunday Karn |

I don't remember the exact brand but the ones I used to get were 5 net carbs. I don't use the LC tortillas anymore, though, unless I am eating a quesadilla. But the brand I used to eat could be found at Kroger's or Walmart.

I am looking at some I got at WM called La Banderita Low carb soft taco. It is a soft, 8" whole wheat tortilla that is 81 calories, 11 carbs, 6 fiber for a net of 5. These are very nice and soft. You can check out on-line to see what store carries them at Olemexicanfoods. Really though, between this and Mama Lupes, this is about as rock bottom as it goes.

Make sure you aren't sensitive to soy protein isolate, though. I am and I got very very sick from eating low carb tortillas.

LC grain products like tortillas are not Atkins-induction-friendly.
That said - I'm having chicken fajitas for dinner tonight and using leaves of iceberg lettuce - perfect! |

If you find you can't handle the tortillas try making your own egg tortilla. It's lower in carbs and tastes good.

in the chilled bagel section at walmart I buy the Azteca LC tortillas, they are the smaller ones, they are lower in sodium and carbs than the carb balance tortillas, and even my kids like them!

I eat a lot of the 5 net carb mission tortillas. Mainly because I'm lazy at lunch and also love breakfast burrito's. And they're pretty friggin good! Make good pizza crusts too. I didn't eat them in induction but have since then while staying around 20 daily carbs and have had no real "stalls."
However I think they give me explosive diarrhea once a day. Well... something does. Worth it! I do try to not eat them everyday though. They're processed and all. |

![]() Super idea! I do that for burgers alot...but need to try them for wraps, too! Quote:
I'm a big fan of LC pitas and I think their carb count might be lower (per 1/2 pita) than a wrap. Oh, and oopsie rolls. Can't forget Oopsies for sandwiches and things. |

La Tortilla Factory has a 6" tortilla that has a ECC of 3g:
50 calories Carbs: 10g - Fiber: 7g They are pretty good, and having two in a meal doesn't throw me out of ketosis (I'm on Protein Power, so they are allowed during "induction"). Ingredients are water, oat fiber, whole wheat flour, soy flour, vital wheat gluten, and expeller pressed canola oil. They also have some gluten free products. Flatout Flatbread is about 6" x 10", and has a net of 9 or 10 carbs per piece depending on how you count the 1 g alcohol sugar (17g, 8g fiber, 1g alcohol sugar ... I count the alcohol sugar as a carb). They are sold at Costco, and are large enough to roll up sliced ham, roast beef, etc along with cheese lettuce and mustard. |

That's the same kind WW suggested to us at the meeting. I have been buying them ever since. Unfortunately, I recently moved and it's reg. tortillas here so we don't buy. I will probably order the SBD ones off of amazon. |

I use joseph's lavash bread and pitas. Mostly the pitas though... Joseph's Middle East Bakery Low Carb Pita Bread
I was able to find these products at my local Wal-Mart They make a big wrap too that is pretty good. But I like the pitas because you don't have to wrap anything, just throw it in a pocket In fact, we're going to the zoo tomorrow and that's what I chose to pack in the cooler. A pita and lots of veggies, with a pouch of tuna. I can assemble it easily when it's lunchtime! |

karn766, do you have to have a bread substitute? I'm in Australia and we don't have a great deal of LC 'frankenfoods' / substitute foods. I work in an office and take a salad every day. Now I'm not a big salad lover, most salad veg I have is baby spinach or lettuce with tomato & celery on occasion. I have 3 salads I like that I rotate during the week otherwise I get bored with the same meal everyday:-
Taco Salad - baby spinach/lettuce, tomato, grated cheese, ground beef with homemade taco seasoning (thanks lindasue) & sour cream on top. Chicken Caesar Salad - baby spinach/lettuce, grated parmesan cheese, bacon, h/b egg, chicken & dressing. Tuna Salad - baby spinach/lettuce, tomato, celery, grated parmesan cheese & tuna slices (packed in olive oil - I use a little of the oil for dressing). There are tones of recipies for salads and I'm sure you could have a wider variety than I like. Any 'sandwich' you enjoy can be made a salad too. I sometimes do a turkey salad (must get some ingredients for this again actually), I like mine with camabert cheese & cranberries (frozen as I can't get fresh here and both the dried berries & bottled sauces in Australia have added sugar). I can't say I don't have LC convenience foods (s/f chocolate & the occassional Atkins bar), but I really think the more basic you can make it the better. Fresh whole foods will always be better than any processed / substitute for carbage. |
