Is seeing and feeling your pulse/heartbeat in your abdomen normal?
Sometimes I can feel (have the sensation of) my heartbeat in my abdomen, to the left of my belly button. I thought nothing of it, but today after I did a pretty intense workout and I could really feel my pulse in my abdomen, I decided to put my hand on it, and I could feel it really strongly. When I was laying down, I could actually SEE my abdomen moving a little bit with each heartbeat. I immediately thought AAA.
I have no family history of it, and I am young (20s) and healthy. I don't smoke, have High BP, or drink. Thanks! ![]() Last edited by LowCarbSarahTryin!; 07-29-2009 at 02:40 PM.. |

this is one of the symptoms of aortic aneurism, but may not be that. have it checked out, just in case.
i also have that sensation but have no abd aneurism. i do however have a somewhat dilated aorta. i see a cardioligist for regular measurements. since i changed to starch/sugar free, it has not increased. another reason to love lc. |

Sarah, I hope you are fine. Before pregnancy I had never had this sensation at least had not noticed it. Since I had my DD every now and again I get a sensation that is sort of like a baby kicking or heart beat. It isn't as pronounced as what you describe and doesn't disturb me but is a little wierd.

I think I had that happen to me a few times after my really intense workouts, but I've never thought much of it.

In thin people, its pretty common... its just the blood pulsing through the aorta that you feel.

Yes, I'd experienced it for quite some time. After being diagnosed with uterine fibroids, my family physician said that this was caused by the enlarged blood vessels. I'm recovering from a hysterectomy now but before the recent surgery, my belly constantly beat hard and forceful while I was lying down. It was weird.
