Side effects?

Does erythritol have any of those nasty tummy side effects like other sweetners?

I don't think so, I've used it in pretty large quantities for baking and have never had any ill effects.

is is one of the rapid absorbed ones so very little of it reaches the large intestine to become those nasty gases and cause a laxative effect.
it doesn't gave a laxative size warning as other SAs do.

thanks guys! I'm gonna order some today. I've been reading all these wonderful recipes that include erythritol and was afraid to even try it. Bad reactions to sugar alcohols

I'm very sensitive to sweeteners. Xylitol is a BIG no-no
but Erythritol gives me zero problems.

I have no problems with it. I love Truvia which is a blend of E. and Stevia.

I have read that it does bother a few people but personally I have had zero problems with it. If you want to test it out before ordering you might want to pick up some Truvia which you can find at most grocery stores. It is made with Erythritol and Stevia.

I don't know why but Truvia does give me a slight headache. I've tried it 2x with months in between use and I always get a small headache.

I don't think it's the Erythritol and I use Stevia alone with no problem.

I don't know what the "natural flavors" are but I never understood why they need to add "flavors" to a plain old sweetener.

I am always leary when I see that listed in ingredients...it's like they are hiding what is being used.

that is wierd you had a reaction to xylitol since our own bodies produce it. Must have been a contaninant from whatever they manufactured it from.

I don't know if it was contiminated but it sure bloated my belly. But so does sorbitol and mannitol.

sorbital and mannital are known and expected bloat issues. The have FDA warnings on their product containers with threshhold limits. Mannitol has the lowest possible threshhold with just 20 grams needed to cause it. that was one reason it stopped being the atkins bars sweetner of choice back in the early 2002s.
