Has anyone heard of the Cardiac Diet?
Hello everyone,
I recently heard some co-workers talking about this 3-day Cardiac Diet: Birmingman 3 day Cardiac Diet Menu FIRST DAY Breakfast: Black coffee or tea ½ grapefruit 1 slice toast 2 tbs. peanut butter Lunch: ½ cup of tuna (no mayo) 1 slice toast Coffee or tea Dinner: 2 slices of any meat 1 cup of string beans 1 cup of beets 1 apple 1 cup of vanilla ice cream SECOND DAY Breakfast: 1 egg ½ banana 1 slice of toast Black coffee or tea Lunch: 1 cup cottage cheese 5 saltines Dinner: 2 hotdogs 1 cup broccoli ½ cup of carrots ½ banana (the other half from breakfast) ½ cup vanilla ice cream THIRD DAY Breakfast: 5 saltines 1 slice cheddar cheese 1 apple Black Coffee or tea Lunch: 1 hard boiled egg 1 slice toast Dinner: 1 cup of tuna 1 cup beets 1 cup cauliflower ½ cantaloupe ½ cup vanilla ice cream Apparently, you're supposed to follow this eating plan for three consecutive days, and then for the next 4 days you are to eat what you want but in moderation- and then repeat the process. I was thinking that this may be really effective if you incorporated LC for the 4 days following the 3 day Cardiac Diet. .. I was wondering if anyone has had any success or has heard anything in regards to this Cardiac Diet?? Thanks in advance!

Omg--- My friends and I used to do this *exact* diet back in high school -- 16 years ago! Ugh, tuna on toast STILL reminds me of this diet when I eat it...ha ha
I would lose 5 pounds every time, but they would come right back when I resumed normal eating. Never tried to follow up with LC though. |

It looks like a not-very-nutritionally-sound-but-low-calorie nightmare. Saltines, hot dogs and ice cream? I mean come on.
It's this why we all come to LC living? So we don't get sucked into stuff like this any more? |

Ack. I did that 3 day diet soooo many times when I was younger in high school. It was the 3 day diet given out by Kaiser Permanente. They are denying the diet now, but it came from them. LOL. I think I might still have an original copy somewhere.
Anyhow, it doesn't work. You will lose weight initially, but that weight will come back. You are better off just doing low-carb. |

Oh, that is a very old fad/crash diet. Call it whatever, it is not a healthy diet.

I remember people at work doing it twelve years ago.
I wasn't overweight yet - so I didn't join in. ( One gal combined it with the cabbage soup diet. ) The losses ranged from a pound a day to one who lost seven. I wouldn't do hunger in any way shape or form. ![]() |

I knew it as the Air Force diet back in the 90s. I was in high school at the time and it claimed you could lost 10 lbs in those 3 days. I cannot handle beets...at all. I still don't know how I stomached that disgusting diet, oh wait, I never did! I think I made it through the first 3 days every time and couldn't do it anymore. Thanks for the memories, I had totally forgotten about that!

Yep I tortured myself with this diet in high school before I learned about low carb. I wish I had known low carb back then trying to follow this at school was a nightmare. I lost a little but not much. My sister lost quite a bit with it but she was a lot bigger than I was.

To the OP...is this something you are thinking about trying? It seems like you have had success on Atkins in the past but are struggling with it now and that's making it hard for you to stick with it and might be causing some desire to keep wanting to switch plans.
I know that feeling!!! I feel like I was in a stall for 2 months, and I sort of was...except that if I was honest with myself there were things I was doing that really weren't quite on plan and I realized that I was eating far too many calories. I think I would suggest really looking at the plans you've been trying since you started in January and looking honestly at what you were eating and what, each time, contributed you to get off track. Atkins is a pretty sustainable diet compared to some of the others you were looking it (like the one above and Stillmans) and I am thinking that until you see what it is that's causing you fall off the wagon, you are going to keep feeling frustrated and trying to find a "diet" that "works." Look at the plans, and try not to base your decision on "quick weight loss" but rather "sustainable lifestyle." Find one you can live with for life. At least for me, the one above is NOT that (and really doesn't make ANY sense!). And don't disappear for so long again! When you get off track, this is the place you should run TO, not FROM.

![]() I would always eat the ice cream first. The hotdogs weren't too bad. I always struggled to eat the tuna and omg, no way was I ever able to get down the green beans, let alone the beets! I did lose weight, but that was because I couldn't stomach the food combinations. I only consumed half of the calories. LOL. I was in high school at the time and back then I only liked lettuce and tomato as my vegetables. Green beans? NEVER! I love green beans now. Mmmmm. Roasted in the oven. Yum. Yum. |

I can't utilize a weight loss program with bread and ice cream.....The low fat choices would leave me terribly hungry. This is why low carb works so well for me. I have figured out that my choices are actually greater than when I was doing low fat. I can get more creative, utilize cream sauces, and the nutrient density of the food actually contributes to me eating less.

A few people I work with did this diet last summer and only one of them has kept most of the weight off. She claims not doing her walking workouts have made her gain some back although I see her daily eating cheezit crackers during lunch.

I have never heard of this diet, but I forgot all about the cabbage soup diet. I did try it, and I liked it only because I love cabbage. I don't really remember if I lost any weight on it though.
