Plan while breatfeeding?
Anyone have any ideas or success while breastfeeding? My son is about 2.5 months old and I don't want to do anything drastic because obviously his food supply comes first. I gained 36 pounds in my pregnancy and the first 20 were off with no attempt at weight loss by about 1 month and then I have been rock solid the same weight since.
My preg/postpartum stats are Pre-preg 158/194/172 Thanks in advance. |

There is a Women's Health forum further down that has a few threads in it about breastfeeding. From what I gather, the ketones affect the taste of the breastmilk, and some babies are OK with it, some are not. Also, I gather BFing moms have some trouble losing weight, but don't quote me. Read those couple threads and see if it answers your questions.

I thought that you will lose weight faster because of breast feeding? I think though if you low carb and eat better with out going into ketosis, you will be able to lose weight with out hurting your baby at all. I also read that fat is really good for babies (we all need, but esp growing children) and it is also good on a lower carb diet. So I would up your good fats, eat plenty of fresh fruit and veggies, and of course some high quality protein. A good idea would also be to google low carbing while breast feeding, maybe you could find some good advice there?

My advice is, make sure you're supplementing with omega 3's. The baby sucks those reserves right out of you! hence, postpartum depression. And yes, eating a higher fat lower carbohydrate diet is best for you and baby. You might also incorporate an apple and some blueberries in your diet.
clean animal proteins/clean dairy (when I say clean, I mean organic) fermented foods and dairy vegetables 2 fruits daily nuts and seeds |

When my son was that old I did a modified low carb. I pretty much did low carb but added milk and as much dairy as I could stomach...I went into ketosis with no ill effects and my milk supply actually increased and I lost about 20 lb before I fell off the wagon. Back on now and nursing an 18 month old (uggggg it will never end) and have lost another 20, though I am much more strict now. hope this helps!

and I have tried weaning him a whole bunch of times. I figure I'll try again in the fall. I really don't mind it that much, I just want to see the light at the end of the bf tunnel ![]() |

Yes, it is such a special gift to your baby!! And I know sometimes it seems like it will never end, and those nursing older babies/toddlers get such little support. You are doing a fabulous thing for your child!!!!!! Among myriads of other great things, nursing will help your child be able to regulate their blood sugar later in life.I nursed my kids into toddlerhood, and now they are 13 and 10. I look back on those days really fondly now, and I don't regret it one bit. I still feel like it is one of the best choices I ever made as a mom. ![]()
