i can't believe i used to eat that!!

We were out shopping the other night, and Dh and DD wanted to go to Long John Silvers, i wasn't really hungry so i just ordered a diet pepsi.

They were eating,, we were talking,, DD takes a piece of her chicken plank, takes the breading off of it and hands it to me. I eat it. OH MY!! it tasted so bad, so so bad. I haven't had anything fried in nine months, and i used to LOVE long john silvers. I can't believe how bad it tasted. I tried not to say anything, cause they were eating, but DH saw my face, and asked what was wrong. I told him it just tasted bad to me cause i havne't eaten anythign like that in so long. About an hour later, DH, who has been doing moderate LC (and has lost 30+ pounds, ) says, oh i shouldn't have eaten that, i feel like crap now.

Lesson learned for that day. 'i do not miss those foods".

next time, we stop at a steak place. I will never say that about steak!!

YES! It's like our tastebuds have changed completely! I took my kids out for ice cream and COULD NOT STAND the artificial taste of my son's chocolate ice cream- BLECH!

Yeah!! Isn't it amazing how our tastes change? I am the same way and love the fact that I crave mostly healthy whole foods ( mostly).

I am the same way with certain foods I used to adore. Even the smells gross me out. It goes both ways also. I will be eating something and just loving it telling DD and DH that it is the best thing I ever ate and they look at me like I am crazy. One thing that comes to mind is pureed cauliflower with a little cream cheese sprinkled with shredded cheddar and scallions. They gag everytime I make it all the while I am worried I will eat the entire batch! They also think it is sick I love plain yogurt - just plain. Your tastes do change once you stop eating all of that artificial crap.

I used to love Long John Silver's too. So much in fact that before this WOE I would order extra "crumbs" (the bits of fried batter) with my meal. Now when I pass the place the smell wafting in the air makes me queasy.

What's really kept me from eating any of that crap is the smell. Now that I haven't had any fast food for almost six months, I notice how disgusting McDonald's and the like smells when my bf brings it into the house. No way am I going to eat that!!!

I got food poisoning on my honeymoon eating there! I was happy to see they closed the local ones down!

I often think that when I'm stocking the pastries in the vending machine at work. I used to hide in the stockroom and gobble them. You couldn't pay me to eat one now.

I wish I felt the same way. While I usually enjoy the foods that I eat while LCing, I have lots of moments when McDonalds, or a Ding Dong, or potato chips or whatever sound/smell/look so good. I know it's about choices and 99% of the time I am making the right choices but I wish I was grossed out by the thought of all of these fake foods. That worries me...the desire for junk is still lurking back there somewhere. If I ever do give in, I usually feel like crap afterward and that is a good reminder of what foods I should be eating...but after a while I seem to forget that and end up wrestling with temptation again...sigh.

Karen, in my opinion knowing you have an addiction is key.

I use the AA approach to sugar, I don't touch it, I don't have it in my home, I stay away from the bakery sections completely.

I thank God for my migraines. 12-48 hours puking my guts out with an agonizing headache is good cause to abstain! It's like sugar antabuse.

Suzanne, I meant to tell you, it is obvious from your post that you have raised a sweet, loving, and generous daughter.

Same here. When I last LC'd, I did lose most of the urge, but there is always a little that just keeps hanging on.

Blerg, I already seem to feel that way about fast food and I'm only a few weeks 'clean' (lol). My coworker was sitting next to me in the lunch room eating some giant burger from Burger King that was just a ball of bacon, cheese, etc and topping it off with onion rings and a huge iced coffee. She knows I'm new to low-carbing and was waving it in my face going 'mmm, have a bite, soooo good'.. yeah.. no.. I could have gagged. Normally I'd just laugh but after having a rough morning at work I politely said "no, thank you. that could not possibly taste as good as seeing the needle sit a little lower on the scale this morning felt". Smug? Sure. But get that BK horror out of my face, lol.

I'm slowly getting there. The other night it was late and we hadn't had dinner. We went through the usual list of places we would hit, realized none of it sounded good (Hardees included) so I ran to Kroger, got some hamburger meat and cheese and lettuce (we were out of all three) and made home made bacon cheeseburgers wrapped in lettuce. Even the kids who are usually fast food freaks. It was soo good.

I still like fast food <I've been around long enough on the boards to know people's opinion of the quality of that food> but I don't eat it often. I only get a burger with no bun. I can handle that, but the extras so don't appeal to me all that much and we are talking a McD's die hard french fry lover! Not so much anymore.

Taste buds do change lots - this became very prevelent to me when my mom came into town. I have been drinking kombucha. It satisfies my juice craving I love it, but when my mom tasted it, she thought it tasted just like vinegar. Well, let me tell you, I take a swig of vinegar 2x's day - it is nothing like vinegar! But seeing as how I don't usually have sweets, my "sweet taste buds" have become hyper sensitive.

We go to a party today - greek food in abundance - they will most likely have one of my favorite pastries - baklava, but I was thinking about it last night and I was thinking - eh, bet it tastes really sweet to me now - not sure if I really want one. We'll see - I have given myself permission to have one if I want...

Thank you Heather! Yes she is very sweet, loving and generous!! I think (hope) all of my kids are like that. Cause I am!!! LOL

I wish she would eat like i do though, she is a carb a holic, and could probably lose forty pounds. She has converted to wheat bread, and tries to cut down on her eating. She just makes bad choices and doesn't move enough. But, i don't preach at her, cause i have been overweight so much of my life that even when someone was rude enough to tell me i had weight to lose, i didn't listen. you have to be there mentally to do it. Its hard, my heart breaks that she has to go through what i go through. And she has a younger sister who is a size ZERO!@!!!! (we don't know where she came from LOL)

Everyones responses to this are funny. I have never stuck to any "diet" for this long, this is my WOE forever, no doubt about it. I just can't believe i let myself and my family eat so bad for so long. We are all making changes, slowly but surely.

that is awesome, proof everyday that this isn't just a diet it's a WOE that changes your body inside and out of how you think about food, I used to Crave long john silvers but now It's just not appetizing like it was, for some reason I love turning down food now!
I have the same feeling with pizza my mom would bring me home one of those big tombstone pizzas and I'd gobble up the whole thing all by myself, I just can't imagine how i did that before...

Me too. Loved those crunchies.

Until 2 months ago I drank Diet Sunkist everyday. There was a stray one in the fridge the other day and I took a sip and literally spat it out in the sink. It was disgusting, tasted like syrup to me now. I'll just have my ocassional Sprite Zero.

So glad you didn't like it!

It's an amazing thing about fast food in general. I hadn't had it for years... About 4-5 years ago I decided to try McDonalds again... I'll tell you the double Q'pounder with cheese tastes like garbage after not eating fast food. I didn't like it.
The amazing part is... I was craving McDonalds again for the coming days... why is that? I didn't like it, but I still craved it?

Blechh....
Anyway, it's been years again and I'm in no rush to eat that stuff...
