WOE: Making myself healthy through LC!!

Life Sucks!

Hey,

This is me crawling back on my hands and knees.............

Ready for a long sob story??

Well, as most of you know, we have been in the process of transferring to Houston with my husbands company. Because of the economy it has been pushed back 4 times and we have been living in a motel room for 2 months now. Needless to say, I fell, and I fell hard! Stress, lack of money, a mini fridge, and a being confined to a motel room with a 3yr old for the last 2 months have led me to gain. I dont know how much, but I would say at least 10lbs of the 30lbs I had lost. I stayed away from LCF out of guilt, feeling completely disgusting, and all around depressed. I realized today while sitting here with my son, that I need an outlet. That I need you all right now more than I ever have. I cant promise that I can do LC right now, but I need you all for my mental health, and to let me know and see that there is a light at the end of this tunnel. Anyway, I just wanted you all to know how much I have missed you and how much you all mean to me.

My Road To The ME I Know I Can Be

Terry-"Dr. Atkins called that first bite the kiss of death, and he knew exactly what he was talking about. If you know yourself well enough to know that you can't handle that first bite, then you can't take that first bite. That sucks, I know, but consider the alternative"

Glad you are back! This is when you need friends most, you should not stay away irregardless of how you are eating - you can do the best you can do under the circumstances. There is bound to be a few others who have gone through something similar and will have suggestions of ways to handle these difficult times.

Stick around you will feel better for it

Thanks so much! I have so missed you all! It is just so hard. Losing weight is hard enough, but everything else added to it just kind of collapsed on top of me. Something really needs to give sometime soon.

You've been without a home, living in a motel room with a 3 year old for TWO MONTHS and you are not yet gulping booze straight out of a gallon jug for breakfast???? You deserve a pat on the back, a giant hug and an outlet for your frustration. And you have all that and more right here with us. I think that eating well and taking care of yourself will help you to feel at least a little bit of control in your life that seems to be controlled by others. I wish you a home - soon.

I had a really terrific professor who told me that learning doesn't happen in a straight line. It zig zags, doubles back, and curves around. It's what happens over the long haul that matters.

You'll get through your move and start missing real foods again - good luck!

Lol, Linda! You made me laugh and cry at the same time! Thank you! And you all are right. I do need a game plan, and control over at least something in all of this chaos. Maybe over the coarse of this week, I can figure out a strategy, with all your help of course, and when I do my weekly motel room shopping for next week, I will have a plan.

Honestly - there's nothing wrong with keeping it simple for right now. Don't sweat too much about the carbs, but make some choices to NOT have quite so many. Have a veg instead of french fries when you eat out, or grab a salad for a meal. Find a local park and take your 3 year old and run around WITH them to burn off some calories, instead of sweating trying to figure out how to exercise.

When I hit tough times, my mantra is "This Too Shall Pass", and then I try to do something SMALL that I know will make me feel better :-)

I know money you said is tight But just one suggestion that might help you to cook low carb foods/cook for the family, and maybe even save some money in the long run. My fiance and his father go up-north hunting for almost a month and live out of a motel. They bring up the weber grill and do a lot of their meals on it and hardly go out. They also had a mini fridge so they would use coolers to store a lot of the foods in those outside in the truck. Probably a little trickier now with it being summer to keep the ice from melting so fast.

The slow cooker is another tool they use to cook but that always seems to only get used once because it's to hard cleaning it out in a bathroom sink or bathtub lol. Not sure how keen the motel would be using on using a charcoal grill or gas grill on the property but I thought I would just throw that out there. A lot of the parks here have grills, maybe that could be an option to grill a bunch of stuff up for like 3/5 days.

Stay strong hun, things will get better soon

MKE- WHat a great idea! I will siggest that to hubby for our next shopping trip! I am also thinking about splurging on one of those 2 burner hot plates so that I can make eggs and BACON!! Yum! I miss bacon!

Heather- we are soooo gonna have to do coffee! I love Houston and cant wait to get back there. We were there a year ago, we built the new outlet mall in Cypress, and now we are going back to do the second phase of it. It is just taking forever to get the go ahead to leave.

There are slow cooker liners - that would make clean up a lot easier.

Brandy,a lot of hotels won't allow hot plates, just make sure you ask first.
The slow cooker and small outside grill are great ideas though. You could get a gas one to cook bacon outside on too.

I hope things change for you guys soon, what a tough time

This kind of thing happens to people who arn't undergoing the stress that you are going through, it's just life and you will get back on track at some point that works for you. This deprivation thing has it's ups and downs, and you are going through the downs at the moment. Life will get better and you won't need the food to calm you down anymore, than you will climb back on board the old bus.............

Don't beat yourself up. Living in a motel room for 2 months with a 3 year old is no easy task. Give yourself a break and when you actually have a fridge/stove, then you can get back on track..

10 pounds is nothing.

Brandy!!!! So happy to see you around again!! I thought we had lost you for good. I think you are doing amazing, I'd have gone crazy if I were stuck in a motel with my dd and hubby for 2 months!!

Another great idea for meal making, bagged salad and pre-cooked chicken slices (Janes, Lilydale are two brands we have here in Canada). Throw on some salad dressing and you have a fast, no cook, low carb lunch or dinner! You are definitely on the right track, planning is key.

So happy you are working on getting yourself back on track, hang in there!!

Living under those conditions would make me give up lc in a nano second. Don't beat yourself. 10 pounds is nothing. Get back on track when life gets more managable.

Brandy, i was so happy to see that you had posted this !!! Do you know there was a thread a few weeks ago asking where you were as well as a couple others that we hadn't heard from!

It is hard living as you are i am sure. You have some great ideas to get back on the LC wagon. It is not impossible. Eggs are cheap and easy to cook (even in the microwave if you have to) and the grill is a great idea too. try to stay active, take walks with the little one, anything to keep you from going crazy in the motel room.

Good luck to you, i hope things turn around soon. You will be ok, you are a strong, smart and beautiful girl. you can do this!
