Green Tea Suppliments really ARE HELPING ME!

ok so, im not one (anymore) to give into diet fads. I have in the past.. its been a long time though.. (since before hoodia) lol

anyway about 3 weeks ago, I was crusing the isles at my local CVS, with my 25% off my entire order coupon picking up things I thought I needed, and even things I didn't.. lol
Anywho, I got to the diet isle, and picked up some of my eas low carb shakes, and spotted a little bottle of green tea suppliments CVS own brand. they were small bottle, 30 in them, but only 3.99. So in the basket they went, what did I have to lose? 4$? I have spent way more on worse things.

So anyway, I get the bottle home, the next day I start taking 4 a day, one every couple of hours. At this time I started a very extreme VLC diet regemin to get myself to goal as my 29th bday present. anywho, to me its no shocker that I start losing weight, im very low carbing, and drinking TONS of water!
anyway I ran out of the pills, kept doing what I was doing, and my weightloss came to a stand still, 2 days later, I GAINED WEIGHT! this SUCKED! I didn't even think of it being the green tea honestly, whatever it was just my ups and downs of low carb eating.. I lose I gain, I lose I gain its a vicious cycle that JUST HAPPENS, And I have to live with it!...

A few days ago, I was at cvs buying some stuff, and said heck let me get those green tea pills again they are only 3.99 and green tea is good for me! lol I looked at the little bottle and the big bottle, and the little bottle again (even the big bottle with 90 gel caps in it is only 11.99) and I picked it up and said What the heck? so I got home and started taking them again.. to no suprise the next morning, I lost weight again.. and yesterday I even had a higher calorie day, and im down a pound today! im at my lowest weight ever.. So I offically LOVE MY GREEN TEA!
I am going to cut down on the suppliments and make myself some Iced green tea and drink that instead this weekend and see how that works..

I always just assumed that green tea was another fad..
sure I drink it once in a while, and I even use matcha powder in shakes sometimes.. But I never knew that when used regularly that it really does work!
who'd uh thunked it! lmao

I guess I should have realized that it being around so long and people raving for so long it must work..

Here's my story on green tea-

I had gotten to a terrible plateau and couldn't seem to budge the scales no matter what I ate or how little. I'm post-menopausal and hypothyroid, so my metabolism is very slow. My endo suggested that "since you're basically healthy" I should increase caffeine consumption to spur my metabolism.

I am a big coffee drinker but only at breakfast. I HAD been drinking herbal tea because I worried about too much caffeine, but after my doctor said that, I began drinking caffeinated GREEN tea (which I love), at least 4-5 cups a day. I drink it plain, so no added calories.

I don't think it's a coincidence that I began dropping weight right after that. It's only a little more than a pound a week (30 lbs in 5 months), but after a year-long stall, it's miraculous. And the added caffeine hasn't bothered me at all--no trouble sleeping. In fact, I wish it would give me just a little more energy:-)

Now that it's getting hot, I'm making my tea and icing it, and it's just as delicious cold.

I don't have the CVS brand but some green tea supplements that I got for free when I bought a body detox cleanse. I am going to first try these but will definitely try the CVS brand after these. Hope it works for me.

Green tea is very healthy for you, but too bad I hate it so much. Maybe these will give me the benefits and not the taste!

Lucky you!!! I can NOT take green tea supplements. Within a matter of one hour or so I will be so sick that I want to just crawl into bed and die there!!! On the other hand, drinking green tea is no problem. And you can get it in some yummy flavors like peach and mango. i add some liquid sacchrine and it's delish!!

300mg of green tea will burn an extra 80 calories....
More than 300 will not burn any more that 80 cals...
Also contain caffeine which can give you an 'up', but also dehydrate you a bit. I take green tea when i remember, but after taking them for awhile i seem to be slightly light headed when i take them... not sure why.

those green tea pills can't be compared to a brewed cup of green tea.

the reason why those tablets work is because it is concentrated with caffeine, thereby suppressing your appetite while constantly being thirsty so you fill up on water.

just like any other "diet" pill, these are NOT healthy and especially because it is damaging to your adrenals with the constant flux of a "high" from the caffeine.

plus, you know the results when you stop taking them...you either stall or gain as a result. I say stop taking such supplements and learn to heal your body properly and efficiently, instead of doing unnecessary damage for a temporary solution.

best of luck

So the green tea seems to work because of the caffeine? Decaffienated green tea won't work? I can do a little caffeine in coffee but the caffeine in tea really bothers me.

Even caffine free green tea will burns that small amount of calories, it is the EGCG, it is also beyond that very good for you, so do drink up, if nothing for the antioxidants. 300 mg of EGCG is what you are looking for... so maybe 4-5 cups of green tea depending on preparation. Or you can take the pills.

I was saying that those green tea tablets "work" due to being a concentrated source of caffeine.

Overall, brewed green tea is very healthy as Remykins said for its antioxidants.

In case any of you are members of Costco, I buy TruNature brand Green Tea Supplements (300 mg green tea/softgel & 150 mg EGCG/softgel) -- bottle of 320 for $17.00. Serving size is 2 softgels to get 300 EGCG.

I only take 1 per day and then supplement by drinking a cup or 2 of hot green tea per day. I take it for the antioxidant properties of green tea.

Thats the way to do it, minus the guarana (contain up to 4-8% caffeine, more than coffee beans, which contain approximately 1–2.5% caffeine). ... healthier that way less filler and cruddy stuff.

By the way, your pup is too cute!

This is from the CVS web site. I highlighted some points:

Green tea is loaded with powerful antioxidants called polyphenols that protect cells from the ravages of oxidation, a chemical reaction that can lead to cancer and the hardened arteries that cause heart disease. In fact, researchers at the University of Kansas say that one antioxidant, a tongue-twister called epigallocatechin gallate, or EGCG, is 25 times more effective in laboratory tests than the much-touted vitamin E at helping cells resist the damage caused by oxidation and helping damaged cells repair themselves. Both black and green teas have the same total polyphenol content, but green tea has about twice the EGCG.

The warmth and steam from any hot beverage can help you breathe easier if you're congested or have mild asthma. All teas also contain a relative of caffeine called theophylline, a mild stimulant that helps dilate the bronchial tubes in the lungs. In fact, theophylline is an ingredient in many prescription and over-the-counter asthma drugs. However, tea won't help lessen a severe asthma attack; use your medication or see a doctor immediately.

How safe is it?

Green tea generally contains about half as much caffeine as regular black tea (about 60 milligrams per 6-ounce cup). If you're sensitive to caffeine, drinking several cups a day may cause stomach upset, irritability, increased heart rate, or difficulty sleeping. Children may be more sensitive to caffeine than adults. Pregnant women should limit their caffeine intake and nursing women should avoid it altogether.

What's the best way to take it?

If you're trying to get health benefits from tea, you'll probably do best drinking it regularly, preferably several times a day. If you don't like the taste of tea or want to avoid the caffeine, green tea supplements are available in pharmacies and health-food stores. Some green tea supplements provide nearly the same amount of antioxidant polyphenols as four cups of green tea. However, few studies have used these products so we don't know if they have the same effect as drinking green tea. Be aware that the government doesn't regulate herbal supplements, so quality and potency can vary from product to product.

I am curious how much caffeine they have.... my first thought is that you were up a couple of pounds after you stopped taking them because they are a diuretic and you were dropping water. I don't want to come across negative, I do hope they REALLY work for you... but that's how jaded I am when it comes to supplements. Does the bottle say how much caffeine they have?

Yes but what you're failing to recognize is the difference between regular green tea vitamin supplements which generally only contain green tea extract, and green tea DIET supplements which contain the extract along with usually 40-75 mg of caffeine per dose. If each tablet is 50 mg of caffeine, times the 4 Kerry said she's taking per day, thats an added 200 mg of caffeine, in addition to what she already consumes in a day (if she does consume any at all??)

Also, you're implying that this information is true because you've bolded it and quoted it on here but please remember that CVS is trying to sell you the product so they'll claim whatever the manufacturer does without any validity to its truthfulness.

I don't want to be argumentative at all, I'm just stating my opinion on topic while trying to bring another viewpoint to the table.

I hear ya, lalala, you raised a very good point. I think it's important to read the labels to see if it has caffeine or not. There are many different brands. Also, though, the type of caffeine in tea is a different kind than coffee, and much less of it, too. I can feel the difference very easily, as I drink both coffee and tea.

Mostly I'm just very happy that Luvs and others have found something that really helps and might help others. It's great to share those things when we find them so others can try them and see if it works for them too.
