How much butter do you consume in a month?

I know there had been some previous discussion about the use (over use/mis use) of butter, and I'm curious, sort of in a survey style: How much butter do you consume in a month?

I personally consume approximately 400 grams, which is about 1.75 cups. Divided over a month, that's about 1 TBSP a day, about 100 calories/11.5g fat/7.3 saturated fat/0 carbs.

One to two tablespoons of unsalted butter a day (depending on what in eating). I cook all my meats and eggs in butter, unless we're grilling. On veggies I vary, some days I use it and some days I don't. But it's never because I'm afraid to use the butter, I'm just to impatient to wait for it to melt!

If I use 2 TB of butter a month, I'd be surprised. I use EVOO for my cooking, etc. I really am not a big butter fan, except melted with clams, lobster, etc.

Well, and I used to like it on corn on the cob, but since I don't eat corn any more...so much for that!

Maybe a tablespoon a day, if that. I usually fry omelettes in it, but don't have those every day, and sometimes I use olive oil instead depending on what I put in my omelette.

I melt butter on steamed veggies when I have those, but usually I get my veggies either raw in a salad or fried in olive oil or sometimes PAM. Oh wait, I also fry fish in butter. But that's a rare event, because I do not really like fish that much.

I used to melt butter on flax one-minute muffins. But I don't eat those anymore-- they caused a lot of bloating and seemed to stall me.

That's pretty much it. Now that I think about it, I think I used butter MORE when I did high carb (melted on toast, pancakes, used in baked good recipes, etc.!)

About a teaspoon a day here, I only use it for things like herb butter on steaks.

I use around 2 teaspoon of coconut oil a day for frying lean meats or mushrooms (I use titanium pans so fatty meats really take care of themselves) and if I do veg stir-fries I'll use about 2 teaspoon of olive oil.

Double cream (heavy cream) I use about 1/4 cup a day as I use it in coffee and protein shakes.

About 300 g per month. I use it mostly on veggies and fish (flavored with garlic, cilantro, etc.), or for sauteeing veggies.

It probably averages out to about 1 lb/month, not that I ever really kept track of exact amounts.

Usually 2-3 tsp butter to cook my eggs in the morning, but there are other things I use a little butter in too - several recipes I have call for the entire 4-serving recipe to be sauteed in 1 or sometimes 2 Tbsp butter. If I make mashed cauli, 2 Tbsp goes into that, but that makes enough mashed cauli to last for 5-7 dinners. Other than the mashed cauli, I seldom put butter on my veggies though, since I never feel like it sticks to them very well, and I end up with a wasted pool of melted butter on my plate...

Which brings up the question of how much I actually consume of what I use to cook with.

And the answer is I really don't know, since I've never scraped up every last bit of residual butter from the skillet or my plate to see how much was left over. (Hey, I've seen some people who were so nit-picky about the scandalously high amount of butter us "high fat"/Atkins dieters eat, that for their sakes I should probably really account for what doesn't get eaten too! )

I've had an open stick in my refrigerator for a month, and it's maybe half gone.

That said, I eat out quite a bit, so I eat more butter than that, but I don't tend to use it.

About 1 stick a month. I use it on veggies and to fry eggs (with olive oil). If I bake something that month, then of course it's a bit more 1 stick more avg.

eta: I don't eat fried eggs/omelettes daily. Maybe once a week. Mostly protein shakes after running.

Depends on whether I made flax muffins or not. If I do, we can go through a couple pounds in a month. DH likes to cook his eggs in it, too. I don't deliberately add it to things, but I don't shy away from it either.

But, I probably eat more bacon grease since I cook most things with that.

I looove fat and need to eat high fat ratios to feel at my best. So, there have been phases where I would easily consume 60 oz a month. At other times, I prefer double cream, or CO, or bacon / fatty ground beef as my fat sources. I go through cycles.

But yes, I love butter and think it is very healthy indeed.

Depends on what I'm making....probably 1 to 2 sticks in a month.

I tend to use more olive oil, mostly because I eat a salad once or twice a day with dressing.

We go through a half pound of butter every 4-5 weeks (for a family of three), and a small bottle of olive oil about the same. We use butter mostly for topping veggies and frying eggs.

We're grilling a lot now, so we're not using a lot of oil or butter to cook. But in the winter we do a lot of roasting and sauteeing, and we'll probalby use more oil and butter then.

I don't use butter that often. Maybe a tsp. or less when making an omelet or frying eggs but that is only 2-3x per week. I use more olive oil than anything but I don't even use that unless it is on a salad or grilled fish or veggies.

We use Smart Balance light in place of butter and for a family of 3 we probably go through a 15 Oz container in about 4-5 months. I also use the Smart Balance 50/50 when baking for hubby and my 3 year old, but those are non lc goodies so I do not have any. We prefer Olive Oil for sauteeing but once in a while if I am super rushed I'll throw some smart balance light in a pot and dump in some frozen veggies for a quick fix. That being said, I switched to using Smart Balance light cause hubby has high cholesterol. Runs in his family. I never limited it for myself nor do I avoid it when out but I like the taste of the Smart Balance light just as much so I don't bother buying the regular anymore. Nothing like lobster dipped in butter or steak for that matter, yummy!!

I'm not sure exactly how much, since I have sticks for some things, and then the easy spread kind for it's melting purposes. Last night I had quite a bit on my steamed broccoli, but you know, I ate my broccoli!! If we have steaks, we'll cook the steaks in butter, and then I'll dip my steak in some butter as well. It's a LOT of butter at those times, but steaks aren't an everyday thing around here you know?
