Raw Eggs and Hair Loss

What's the thing about raw eggs and hair loss? I remember reading about it here somewhere but now I can't remember what it was.

Something about the egg whites binding some sort of something or other and you loose hair. And there was a supplement you could take to help?

I have 3 raw eggs in my eggcreams every morning and I'm starting to loose hair.

Suggestions?

I would suspect that it is not the egg whites causing this. How far into your LC regime are you? Hair loss is common at certain stages of LC and in fact certain stages of any weight loss.

I think the problem is from consuming lots of egg whites only - then you can have a biotin deficiency because the whites have something that inhibits the absorption of biotin, and the yolk counteracts this. If you consume the yolk and whites you are fine. The hair loss is most likely from losing weight, there is a term for this and there was a thread on this recently. But, it's normal to lose some hair if you have lost a lot of weight, it will grow back.

OK... well I consume both the yolk and the whites so maybe it's just because of the weight loss? But I thought you only lost hair if you lost the weight really fast.

I'm very close to 40 pounds down but it's been pretty slow... since January 21st.

As for the question about what is an eggcream?
They are basically protein shakes and they are delicious and I love them VERY, VERY much!!! Here is a link with some ideas: Link

My favorite recipe is:

5.5 oz Atkins Shake (Chocolate - 5.5 oz is exactly half of a shake since they are 11 oz)
2 oz heavy whipping cream
3 eggs
2 shots Cool Brew (Iced Coffee Concentrate)
15 drops Stevia
1 or 2 ice cubes (enough to make it SUPER COLD but not icy)

Blend well - insert straw - enjoy!

Mmmmmmmm it tastes like a Frappuccino and keeps me SO FULL all day!

They are wonderful, you must try one. I had never tried one until last week either. The thought of raw eggs kinda made me nervous, but I decided to try it anyways (some people will use egg beaters instead of raw eggs). There are so many different versions so just do a search for egg creams to find the recipe you like best.

I make mine with:

1-3 eggs (just depends on how hungry I am)
Sugar-free Almond breeze (vanilla) or HWC (or I guess you could mix the two)
a touch of sugar-free vanilla syrup
2oz of cream cheese (sometimes)
I pour mine over ice

I think it happens from any significant weight loss/diet change.

It is called telogen effluvium.

Try freezing the coffee, instead of the ice cubes. i am not a coffee fan, but i freeze about a 1/2 cup of coffee and it just give me that flavor i like. Oh, i see you use the concentrate, can that be froze. it took me a while to do a egg cream, i think i read about them for a year, before i tried them, i also like the pumpkin, and i freeze the pumpkin too. delicious, strawberry ones are good too.

I have noticed hair loss also. I had never heard about the eggs causing it though. I love my egg creams and I use both egg white and yolk. I only use two though.
My recipe is:
1 Tbls melted Coconut Oil.
1/2 C Coconut milk
2 Eggs
Tsp. Vanilla
Tbls. Splenda.
YumYum!

The glycoprotein Avidin in raw egg white (must be raw) binds biotin, making it unavailable for absorbtion and causes a biotin deficiency which will result in hair loss. Biotin is a very cheap vitamin. I take 5000mg a day.

I was under the impression that eggs were good for your hair because of the protein. I know that a lot of my friends use mayonnaise in their hair as hair masks. Losing some hair would probably be a result of the dramatic change in diet, rather than the eggs.

I completely agree with this statement. Not the eggs, but a diet as a whole.
Check you nutrient and caloric levels... something is not right.
