2nd attempt at low carbing (help please!)

I tried very hard to do it last week, and sucked at it.

I have a big trip to a beach house in San Diego in 4 weeks. I want to lose 20lbs, and really get going on a healthier lifestyle.

I found the hardest thing to drop is fruits. What fruit do y'all eat that work for low carb diet? Those are usually my go-to for a sweet treat.

Any pointers would be appreciated.

I follow Atkins Induction, so fruits have been completely cut out, however he does state that berries (pretty much any kind) are good lowcarb options when you start moving up the latter. A lot of people here like berries with cream and Splenda. Of course, this definitely depends on what plan you're following. I'm sure it's different for each one. Good luck

Right after Induction
I love raspberries/strawberries.
You can put a little whipping cream and the berries,
So yummy and legal,...

So strawberries and blueberries with some fat free whipped cream would be okay?

You don't need to go fat-free anything on low carb! Try heavy cream (you could whip it yourself if you want and sweeten with Splenda) or even Redi-whip!

Not fat free, that has more carbs
Full fat whipping cream,
You have to check the carton and count your carbs
usually its 1 carb for 1 Tablespoon,
and for 1/2 cup of raspberries its 3.5 net carbs.
Roughly.
That is how i enjoy them.

Stalana it needs to be 'sugar free' not fat free. I use heavy whipping cream and splenda and whip on high, it's great. a little vanilla extract also.

Not if you want Atkins Induction to work as effectively as possible--but since you're doing your own plan based upon WW, of course you can choose to eat them if you wish. I also think it's highly unrealistic to want to lose 20 pounds in 4 weeks, so you might want to adjust your expectations to be a little more achievable.

On Atkins, berries are on rung 4 of the carb ladder in OWL, after more veggies, more dairy and fresh cheeses, and nuts and seeds.

If you are in a hurry - I would say to cut the fruit altogether for now. 20 pounds in 4 weeks isn't likely to happen and I think you're setting yourself up for disappointment. 10 is reasonable, 12 could happen if you really work at it, but like others said, fruit can't be a part of induction. Good luck!

FAT FREE? 'Scuse me, but what's the point of *that*?

Fat isn't the enemy; sugar is.

Betty is right...Go for a super clean induction for 4 weeks......Fruits can start again when ure in San Diego. I also started clean induction as of today. Will leave July 1st for a month and need as much as possible. And i am experienced enough to know that i need to do a clean induction, no alcohol, no fruits and minimal carb....Good luck

Whatever plan you're following, know this: FAT FREE not only tastes bad, IT IS BAD. Read the ingredients.

Cucumbers are great and very low in carb. Add some salt and they taste like heaven...Good choice

You don't have a specific low carb plan

that you are following so it is hard to give you advice. I can't say "read the book".

So you can still eat low carb including fruit. Atkins just doesn't allow it in the first 2 weeks and it is the same w/South Beach. So after that initial phase, you may add back blackberries, blueberries, and strawberries.

Really though, I would find a plan I like and stick to it. Even if it means giving yourself a carb allowment of no more than 50 grams a day or whatever.

not fat free. Use heavy whipping cream/vanilla extract/some splenda or stevia for sweetness and whip it up. Yummers.

Maybe on '72 or something, but no, they are not allowed until rung 4 on DANDR.

I definitely agree with this. I think it's important to have a goal, but some people when they see they aren't going to reach their goal find a way to sabotage themselves. Don't worry about the number, just eat clean and exercise. Most of the time everything else takes care of itself. Good luck!

^^ What she said. I am also doing WW with a low/good carb slant, and I would swap the FF whipped cream for a nice dollop of Greek yogurt. I am enjoying Berry Season, and still losing. My plan is to eat foods that were grown on a plant and avoid those manufactured in a plant.

Your goal of 20 lbs in 4 weeks seems unrealistic, and I would focus on staying On Plan for the next 28 days, which is within your control. The weight will take care of itself. Trust your body!
