How long does it take you to get yourself into ketosis?

My question is adressed in the first place to those who follow lc diets that require you to monitor whether you're in ketosis or not, such as atkins, stillman's etc. How many days does it take you until you know you're in ketosis? When do you usually start developing first symptoms of ketosis?

I'm asking because I started suspecting that I might be metabolically resistant, because I've done Atkins induction and stillman's earlier and I don't think I have expirienced any symptoms of ketosis, especially the loss of appetite. It's funny, 'cuz most people say they expirience lots of discomfort on the first couple of day and than it gets easier. But it's completely the opposite for me - I feel relatively good on the first two days or so. I don't feel particulary hungry or tired or anything and than after two-three days I get very hungry. It seems like my body has burned all the glocogen but doesn't start producing ketones for some reason.

I'm currently in the end of the third day of Stillman's (it's low carb, low fat) and I started getting pretty hungry. I hope it's gonna get better. Maybe I just need more time to enter ketosis? I dunno...

I think I was in trace levels after the thirsd morning on Atkins.. Husband was in moderate levels by the fourth morning. Husband went through the induction flu really bad but for me I had no problems whatsoever.

Ketostix don't always tell you the true story though.. some people just don't show on the sticks even though they are in full ketosis.

I don't know anything about Stillman's other than what I read. I like Atkins because I feel that the fat helps make me feel full, satisfied and not hungry. In fact I do better weight loss on higher fat percentages.

I found stillmans hard..the fat is what gives me that zero hunger feeling

3-5 days should do it.. dont worry about the ketostix..just see how you feel

I have to agree with Lylotte and Danceruk fat is key to satiating hunger. Low fat AND low carbs is really hard.

As for Ketosis...i get some symtoms and not others...for instance...after 3 days or so i feel great and my appetite decreases steadily after the first 3 or 4 days untill a couple of weeks in i have to remind myself to eat....however, in the beginning i'm ravenous, have a head ache...full on carb hangover!!

I never feel furry tongued or weird flavour in my mouth as some do.

I think in the beginning everyones experience is very individual...if you were eating a lot of refined carbs and sugar before you start induction, i think you are likely to take longer to get into ketosis and feel worse in the early days. As insulin is produced according to a feedback mechanism, it predicts how much sugar it will need to process each time you eat, according to how much was processed in previous meals. So if you have always avoided sugar and refined carbs but eaten wholegrains etc, your body may not produce as much insulin anyway. Also everyBODY is different, some people are more insulin resistant, different BMR, different hormones etc.

It is frustrating but it is impossible to generalise...even two people eating exactly the same diet will respond differently to it!

Maybe your body is so ecstatic not to be poisoned anymore that it skipped the first few carb flu days? ha ha.

And i'm sure that if you increase your fat intake a little your appetite will decrease.

I don't know enough about Stillman's but I lose faster with MORE fat. Doing that plan would grind my metabolism to a screeching halt.

That being said, I've done Induction 3 times and I'm usually well into keto-land by day 4.

Ketosis

I started yesterday and already at the "small" level on the Ketone stick. Done Atkins before and lost 30# in 1 month. I believe the trick is to find the right food combos that keep you full. For instance we had a huge brunch (5 carbs) yesterday that kept us full until dinner, and was satisfied after a few bites of salmon and my salad.

I quit buying ketostix because they are pretty much a waste of money for me. I've been in what had to be full-on ketosis...not feeling hungry, losing as much as 3-4 lbs. a week...and had the danged ketostix barely measure the faintest of faint pink (if I held it up to a spotlight-quality light, lol.)

I have decided if I'm desperate to do another "test" besides the scale & my clothes, it would be more economical to just pee on a Q-tip. That would give me about as much useful info

I don't use the keto sticks anymore, for so many reasons.

I'm on Day 5 of induction, and while I don't know the exact moment I went into ketosis, when I woke up this morning the taste in my mouth (blech) confirmed that I am definitely in it.

I've been on induction (or no more than 20 to 30 in a day after the first month, and that's spread out and a lot veggies) since Feb. 1, and have experienced zero signs of ketosis. Feel better, weight is dropping, people are noticing, but still hungry a lot, no metallic taste or any other signs of it?!?!

I did stillmans which is basically a low fat meat n egg fast and I was hungry and miserable. I lost some weight but I also lose on Atkins too and I'm never hungry (in fact I'm usually NOT hungry). If ur open to it, try adding some good fat and see what happens.

It takes me 2-3 days to get into ketosis when I find myself out (which isn't often).
