Pretend your going camping this weekend. What are you eating?

We may or may not go camping this weekend. A lot is depending on whether DH gets paid for a handyman job he did. I will not fall off plan!

So if you were going what would you take to eat?

I am thinking:

Nathan's hot dogs
deviled eggs
eggs
bacon
lc tuna salad
chicken
some salad veggies

What else?

When I was little we used to wrap ground beef patties and veggies in a foil packet with some spices and throw them on the fire. Simple but good!

I assume you will have a cooler.

I would think lettuce wraps with meats and cheeses from a deli you like would be good.
one of the Deli whole roasted chickens works great..

Olives, pickles, cook your bacon ahead of time and take it.
As important as food is, so is your water! Take more than you think you will need!

have fun!

We are going canoeing on the Crystal River soon.. can't wait!

Hey Stargirl, my Mom made those, called them HoBo dinners! I made them two nights ago. I am doing the CAD , so I have one reward meal, and that is what I had. I adore potatoes, so if I can have them once a day, I can do that diet! Oh yeah, I put bell pepper ( very important for taste) potatoes, lots of onions and chunky black pepper, or it's call course black pepper lol.

I would take with me on a camping trip, some Love's Truck Stop Beef jerky, it is really Robertson's brand. Taste like the real old western beef jerky, just smokey and dry , not like the stuff you get in the bags. It is sold in a tub and it is yummy.

I would take some nuts( not talking about the human kind , they know what they are!) a can of tuna, an onion, if I were really ruffin' it.

We did this with Cornish Game Hens, seasoned them and wrapped in foil reallly well, then tossed them on the BBQ or in a fire pit for an hour or so....talk about gooooooooooooooood Camping foods. yumyum

ALso....if you have a campfire you have to have roasted mushrooms... cook them just like you would a marshmallow....cook it over the open fire or coals until it starts to sizzle and drip...oh ma gosh...these are so goood. I would have these around people who are eating their sugary marshmallows and they would get one wiff and eat the mushrooms instead.

Outdoors is the only time I eat nuts, I buy them shelled as to not eat so many.

My favorite part of camping which goes way back to when I was a kid was the morning breakfast, big skillet of eggs and sausage and onions all mixed together....

now I wanna go camping!

Obviously fresh-made sausage that you get in the butcher shop to roast in the fire!

make foil dinners - can use beef, chicken breasts, fish. Add a few cut up veggies in there. Put all in a foil pouch and place in the campfire. Yum!

we did these all the time in scouts.

I'm taking my cub scouts camping in 2 weeks and this is what we're making

All above ideas are great.. I would add in Oopsie Rolls.. mostly because I finally after 6 weeks started making them and LOVE them. You could use them with hamburgers so you can eat with your hands and also with bacon and eggs for breakfast, and use them for a sandwich at lunch. Pretty much eliminating the need for lots of knives and forks and plates while eating!

I'm sooooo looking forward to camping this summer!

We have a camper with a fridge and microwave. I bring either our grill (I love anything cooked on a grill outside) or the foreman grill, and a pot and pan to cook over the fire. Last time I made sausage and saurkraut cooked in the dutch oven oven the fire. It was nice because I just through it all in and we didn't have to watch it or anything.

Lots of good ideas so far! I never thought about wrapping the food up together and tossing in the fire.
