Intolerance to onions?

Has anyone developed an intolerance to a certain type of food that they use to eat with no problem?

I had onions in my salad twice this week and oh. my. word.
My stomach hurt so bad, I was bloated and felt very ill.
Next day thought I'd try the same thing, added onions to my salad.
Another stomach ache! Yesterday had no onions and today I feel fine.
What gives? I cannot go on without my red onions!

I can not eat onions. Especially the dehydrated kind. The ones that come on a McD's burger are bad news. I can not use lipton onion soup mix in anything. I have used some taco seasoning that had them in them and it made me sick. Onions are horrible for me. I once had an onion blossum at a restaurant and I thought I was going to DIE!

Yes, I developed an allergy to eggs

It is very possible to develop an allergy as an adult. I know someone that developed an allergy to broccoli at the age of 43.

Yes! This happened to me the first time I did Atkins. When I got to the fresh cheese week, I developed stomach cramps every time I ate cottage cheese. I can eat any other kind of cheese, yogurt, etc.

I never noticed this problem before. Go figure.

Hey Florida, I feel your pain, LITERALLY and YES entirely possible.

Do you have seasonal allergies? Google "oral allergy syndrome," fascinating stuff... Basically, I can eat some fruits and vegetables COOKED bc it breaks down the proteins in those foods [yes, fruits and vegs have proteins-who knew? Not me!] but I CANNOT eat them raw. My situation is getting worse unfortunately, reaching to more and more fruits and veggies and the reaction is getting stronger..

I have had 3 months of reacting and couldnt figure out WHAT and finally figured out it was LEMON. Do you know how many things LEMON is in?

Just last night, ate at a Mexican restaurant [DS bday he got to choose] and ordered very carefully and got so sick bc apparently there was lemon juice in the salsa!

Good luck to you! PS I cannot eat scallion/green onions but can eat red and vidalia, etc so maybe you could substitute another onion?

Yes, I had the same symptoms on and off all last year after eating certain foods. Doctors determined they were GB attacks. Pain/full feeling in the middle of my stomach (originally thought it was an ulcer) and also right side under the ribs. Anything with onions and onion powder brought on terrible pain! I finally had my GB out a few weeks ago. Hope you figure out what's going on.

Oh brother, are you serious?
I have had a full feeling in my stomach after eating just a few buffalo wings this afternoon. Gosh, I hope it's nothing with my gall bladder!
That's the way I felt two days in a row after eating onions. I hurt under my ribs, so uncomfortable.

Exactly!

Ok so lately I've gotten bad stomach aches, not to the point to where I feel sick, but if they are on my food or in a burger or what not, my stomach has cramps. And im sure its every onion because my mom likes to experiment with onions and for some reason thinks im lying about this whole thing to not eat her food. (which is really bad anyways btw) and shes laughing with my stupid step dad when they aren't making sense because my dad also has that allergic reaction. personally, i think their being rediculous but whatever. anybody have any suggestions?

I actually have had increased intolerance of certain foods, but I don't want to give those things up and I found that taking probiotics and digestive enzymes helps tremendously!

I've been onion intolerant all my life. Can't even stand the smell - it turns my stomach. It's a shame because they are everywhere.

I am more sensitive to dairy, wheat, and legumes now. I still have dairy and on rare occasions the latter two. My doctor said, based on my tests, that I am not allergic to these but I might have built up an intolerance.
