Fat Fast and Calories question

So I planned on starting a fat fast today, but then I got to thinking.

Dr. Atkins says that when you do a fat fast, you are supposed to restrict calories down to 1,000 but isn't that counterintuitive to everything else he teaches? Won't my body go into starvation mode?

Anybody have any insights?

Lets start here...

Why a Fat fast are you Metobolic resistant?

It is recommended not to do fat fast unless you are. Are you not losing with Induction?

Post a sample of menus

Certain individuals are so metabolically resistant that only more intense dietary restrictions prove successful that is why the fat fast should only be done by those who can't lose on Induction, have thyroid problems or other metabolic issues.

I've never had a doctor tell me I was metabolically resistant, but I have been on induction for 2 weeks and haven't lost anything. I did Atkins once before and lost 6 or 7 pounds on induction (and I feel like I am being even more strict this time around).

Breakfast: 3 scrambled eggs and 2 pieces of bacon
Lunch: Tuna salad or chicken salad
Dinner: Steak or hamburger patty with cheese and side salad with 2T ranch

I also have a snack during the day. Usually macadamia nuts or a cheese stick or a couple slices of turkey.

The last few days I started adding 2-3 TB of coconut oil every day, but still no weight loss.

Oh, I also wanted to add that I am working out 4 days a week - 40 minutes of cardio.

12-15 of your Induction carbs should come from veggies spaced out with each meal. Are you eating the majority of your carbs at dinner? This could cause blood sugar swings or high insulin levels right before sleep which would restrict weight loss in some.

Occassionally I'll have some veggies during the day, but yes, it's mostly at night. I'll try spreading out my veggies. Thanks

Have you kept measurements? You may be losing inches but the scale hasnt caught up yet, especially with working out.

I'd take my measurements NOW, give it two more weeks eating a clean and true Atkins diet (no nuts on induction) and see. If it doesn't change, I would have a check up with your doctor and see if other reasons are present on why you can't lose any weight.

This is what I was thinking - only WAY better than I could say it. I TOTALLY understand your frustration not losing after two weeks induction. Please give it one more week of good clean induction> I think I remember that Dr. A says three weeks before considering the fat fast. To answer your question yes, those low calories ARE extreme and not part of standard Atkins. Thus they are only for the severely metabollically resistant who cannot lose otherwise. Give induction one more week and if you don't lose then yes I say give the fat fast a try. Only please do it for a maximum of three days as described by Dr. A. You don't really lose after the third day anyway. Hopefully you will see results and the fast will put you into deep deep ketosis. Then you can SLOWLY transition back to Atkins induction - adding back in vegetables SLOWLY.

Hang in there! Sometimes our bodies just need time to adjust to changes. You've drastically changed your WOE and you are excercising too. Your body is probably just having a panic freak out non reaction. Give yourself some time.

I see a lot of sodium processed foods.

Breakfast: 3 scrambled eggs and 2 pieces of bacon
Lunch: Tuna salad or chicken salad

Also Coconut oil.... beware, though it is very healthy people stall on it. I recommend it be saved for mantainance. Also nuts are not on induction... those can cause stalls too

Yes, I kept measurements from the start and I've gained an inch overall

I added the macadamia nuts a couple days ago because I was trying to get more good fats in there.

I'll definitely give it another week or two before trying something else.

Thanks guys!

Good! Be sure to keep it clean and "by the book" so no nuts yet and as little processed foods as possible.

You can do it!

The first thing I would do if this were my situation & menu is: nix the nuts, add more of the allotted veggies, & make sure cheeses are limited to 3-4 ounces per day. In a few days, the scale will move.
