Is anyone a member of Planet Fitness?

Seems crazy cheap. $10 a month unlimited. Anybody a member with an opinion of it?

My mother in law is a member, and DH and I worked out there over christmas weekend. It was a beautiful gym with great equipment, they have everything you could need, except a squat rack.

$10 a month is a steal but right now they are running a $99 for the full year special which is even cheaper.

The only bad part is that they don't have classes.

Planet Fitness is also famous for having a "lunk alarm" for when you grunt and they have a policy of having a "Judgement Free Zone".

Not exactly my kind of place.

a lunk alarm is basically an alarm they flash if someone is acting like a hard ass haha dropping weights and grunting like they are the man...

because its suppose to be the judgment free gym they dont want any show offs or cocky weight lifters...

the gym is good if your just looking for the basics.. i go there to use the treadmill and some weight machines.

if the one around you offers tanning though i wouldn't recommend that. i'm pretty fair skin and thought i would try it and the beds didn't even touch me and i was going in for the max...

Yeah I was going to ask if anyone did the tanning package. It's $10 a month for a reg. one or $20 for the tanning and other stuff. I never did tanning before and was wondering if it was any good.

i joined a year membership for the 20 dollars to do the tanning because it seemed convenient but unfortunately for me it was just a waste of money ..

other tanning places work great for me though so it must have something to do with the strength of their beds.. i even went in w new bulbs and there was no change at all.

They also have all the machines face AWAY from the mirror so you can't check your form. I am certainly not a meathead or a lunk but I do use the mirrors to check my form. My mother in law is new the gyms and working out so its great for her.

I am not a fan of a gym that gives out free tootsie rolls and has free pizza night once a week and free bagel day every week.......it seems they are targeting overweight customers and want to keep it that way.

But if you want the basics, its a great, cheap starter gym.

Yeah, I'm not there to socialize, eat or anything. I'm a in and out kinda girl. I have a stairmaster at home, I just want to use their elliptical and weights.

I used to go to Lucille Roberts, but they had only 2 or 3 ellipticals and were always booked and the machines were kinda old. So this new one just opened up a few months ago and thought it was perfect. I didn't know anyone that was a member, so I appreciate the feedback and I'll sign up

Well all of the equipment is state of the art and brand new so for the price you can't beat it. The last time I paid $10 a month for a gym I was in college, it was a student rate and the gym was HORRIBLE. This gym is a real steal.

It's also not the place if you are a classes kind of person. They don't have any classes like you would see at Bally's, etc. No spinning, aerobics, etc.
It's great for me, I just want to go in, treadmill, do some weights and get out.

I used to belong, until I transferred to the health building at work, where the gym ,right below me, is free. I also have a key, so I can come and go after hours.

I agree though, great starter gym.

I've been a member of PF since August of last year.

I love it. I pay the $20 per month membership So I can go to different clubs if I want. I go to one close to home, but I work in Boston and there is one there I can go to if I want. (going there tonight actually because the weather is so bad)

I love it because there are tons of machines and I never have to wait. I do the elliptical and the treadmill now but they also have tons of weight machines and they have a trainer there that will set up a workout program for you. I don't use the tanning or the massage chairs.

There are tons of televisions too that you can plug into with your headphones but I just use my ipod.

I find it clean and convenient. And there are all kinds of shapes, sizes and ages who work out there - that makes me feel very comfortable.

Now here's the one thing I don't like. The first Monday of every month is free pizza day. They have tons of pizza's free to their clients. I think it's nice to treat the clients but with pizza? I would like to see healthier treats myself. Oh and they have free bagel day first Tuesday morning of every month. Not good for those who are low carbing.

But then again I don't go there to eat. I go to workout. So overall I like my PF.

yeah,,, i really don't get the free pizza and bagel thing!! or the "help yourself" bowl of tootsie rolls....

to me it would be more appealing to provide a healthy food...

maybe they think they can initially reel in new customers by letting them know they serve their favorite carb filled foods...

i've been looking into finding a new gym just because i would like to go to one with classes, but i spent almost a year now at PF just starting out and it was a great way to get myself ready for the next level.

I remember going to the gym after my last son was born and watching people eating frozen yogurt/Ice Cream! I thought that was weird!
