Good sources of Vitamin D?

Hey all,

I use fitday and I have been tracking my vitamin and mineral intake with it because my goal is to get as close to 100% of my daily needs through food as possible. I am doing alright but I find that no matter what I eat, my intake of vitamin D is always extremely low.
Does anyone know any good sources of vitamin D from foods that I could start eating? (I eat very close to induction style with some fruit added in.)
Also, it's worth noting that I HATE fish in all forms, sadly. (Except for canned tuna.)
Thanks!

70+ oz of water a day.
Get in some exercise everyday, whatever that may be.
Eat at least 5 servings of veggies per day.

Here's a list I found on the web...eggs and swiss cheese seem to be the only induction friendly items.

Hope it helps.

salmon, sardines.
Walking in sunshine for an hour. Defer showering for 30 minutes after returning indoors (you'll wash the vitamin D off your skin if you don't let it 'soak' in)

There are two vitamins your body needs that you can get without actually swallowing them - D and K.

D is called "the sunshine vitamin" because it's created by your skin with exposure to the sun.

Almost Everyone Needs More of the Sunshine Vitamin - US News and World Report

K is created in your intestinal tract by the friendly bacteria there. You can keep your supply of K up by eating yogurt and probiotic foods. If you're on Lipitor or any other statin drug, the action of K can be blocked.

D & K are both fat-soluble vitamins - a low fat or fat free diet impairs absorption of both, but especially K, since it's made by the intestines instead of the skin.

Thanks for the ideas everyone! I am aware that being out in the sun is needed but I was just curious about the foods as it is winter here right now, and I go to work in the dark and come home in the dark. :-( (Go away winter!!!)

In the winter, it is impossible to get enough vitamin D from the sun if you live north of Atlanta, as the sun never gets high enough in the sky for its UV-B rays to penetrate the atmosphere.

I take cod liver oil for its vitamins A & D.

How to Get Your Vitamin D in the Winter

Vitamin D also gets trapped in fat and many obese people have low Vitamin D levels. Also you are looking for the D3 supps not the D2 which is in many multis.

USATODAY.com - Vitamin D reserach may have doctors prescribing sunshine

I use supplements.

I get a bottle of 300 capsules of Vitamin D3 for $9.99.

That's almost a year's supply and that's the dose that's really recommended these day's.

The deal can't be beat.

Carlson Ddrops.

I live in Florida and even in the summer, being outside a lot, I am deficient. It's tougher than most people think to get D from the sun and/or food.

Mine has 2000 IU per drop, but they also make it in a 1000 IU strength.

Oh wow, that's awesome!

How many 'servings' are there ina bottle and how much do you pay for yours?

I believe anything sublingual gets into your system better.

It has 365 servings in it. I got it at Vitamin Shoppe for around $20, I think.

I get mine in a pill prescribed by my ND. My levels used to be very low, now they're not.

I recently read the following from U.S. News and & World Report:

"In the winter, it's impossible to produce vitamin D from the sun if you live north of Atlanta because the sun never gets high enough in the sky for its ultraviolet B rays to penetrate the atmosphere."

Here is the complete article.

I hope all of you are supplementign with D3 (pure cholocalciferol) or CLO but preferrably both.....depending on your region. I'm in California and don't get enough sun this time of year.

If you're not supplementing with it, you are deficient and so are your children.....

Fortified D foods like dairy don't count.

This is our biggest deficiency right now and a great deal of studies point to cancer......

If I took nothing else, it would be my D.

I obviously do not feel different taking Vitamin D, but after all the studies and reports I have read, I make sure to get in at least 1000 IU of D3 a day.

I will be picking up the 2000 IU drops when I get paid next.
