How do you reward yourself?

Hello everyone,

How do you reward yourself? We work really hard to stay on plan. How do you reward yourself for losing 5lbs or for getting to the gym all week?

I recently have been giving myself itunes dollars. For each time I get to the gym I award myself and Itunes dollar. I can add a new song to my ipod for each time I get to the gym or I can save them up for an audiobook etc.

What are some of your ideas?

I make myself a cappuccino with Orley Whip (cream equivalent for people who are lactose intolerant) since it contains zero carbs. I put cinnamon on top and whip a little vanilla essence into the "cream". It tastes DELICIOUS and feels terribly decadent. A real treat!

My rewards were two fold. When I started this WOL, I also quit a 20 year smoking habit same day. (Today is 8 weeks, cigarette free) I take the money I used to spend on cigarettes and set it aside and buy something. I already have bought an ipod touch and saving up for next rewards still!

I've been buying new clothes! I bought pants I loved in size 6 and size 4 and worked to get into them. This week I am finally in teh size 4's and they look great. (they were inappropriately too tight for the office prior LOL)

I've also bought myself a new pair of heels for every 5 lbs I lose so I have been getting compliments on my weight loss and clothes at work, which is awesome!

I like the itunes reward though, that's a great one!

my reward is the weight loss.

as, i have no latinum to buy the things I want, and for which i so rightfully deserve, (nor is anyone likely to make a contribution (economic crisis or not), I will have to content myself with less gravity. Love & Profits: FLATFERENGHI

That sounds great! Where can I find Orley Whip? Do you buy it a health food store of in a regular grocery store? I've never heard of it or seen it anywhere.

I think it's usually a new pair of jeans or a few cute tops after a substantial loss.

I tend to not think of doing what is healthy as being worthy of a reward.

Stay with me here, before you smack my head.

Do you get a reward for brushing your teeth three times a day? Do you get a reward for taking your vitamins?

A healthy lifestyle should be no more worthy of a reward or any more a part of an endeavor than flossing your teeth or showering. It is all part of an integral lifestyle.

That said, if you feel you still need a little pick-me-up incentive, how about allowing yourself a movie rental every week? Or your favorite comic? It should be something relaxing and fun that doesn't cost much, is easy and is easy to reproduce week after week in terms of reward models.

Oh! I'm caffeinated so I thought of a few more things:

Make rewards items you use only when exercising. whether it is an awesome pair of shoes you wear while cross-training, or the upgraded Ipod to play the tunes you need to hear to get you through your workout. I rent netflix and watch them only while exercising. That is my treat.

It's like buying your favorite toothpaste to get you to brush more.

It's a reward, but it's a reward towards positive and active health choices!

*going to drink more caffeine now*

Oooh, I love your idea! The itunes store might as well sell crack for how tempting it is.

And flipz! You bought yourself a ipod touch?! I am so jealous. My brother has one of those cool things.

As for my rewards, this week I got real running shoes, since I've stuck to my Couch to 5K plan for over 3 weeks now. When I run the 5K race I'm planning on in February, I'm going to get a running jacket or pair of tights or something else fancy for running. Then I'm going to train for a 10K and get myself more! I've got my eye on this Nike sensor thing that you put in your shoe and it works with your ipod to keep track of your mileage, etc..........

Last time I lost a lot of weight, my reward was clothes! I was the queen of Ross Dress for Less, TJ Maxx, and Old Navy - in smaller sizes it is so easy to get a cute little something for just a few bucks. So I did, almost every week . I'll do it again, too, just as soon as I'm back in those sizes again.

My biggest reward, though, was just liking it when I caught sight of myself in a store window, or noticing how much easier it was to move around, my thighs not eating my shorts in the summer - you know, rewarding crap like that

I really don't want to reward myself with clothes right now because of the amount I want to lose. I'd rather wait until I'm closer to goal.

I like to reward myself with beauty items - like manicures/pedicures. For my birthday in February, if I stick to my short-term goal of staying faithful, then I will reward myself with a full body massage....Sounds heavenly!!!

I haven't really thought of rewarding myself. I'm just so happy when the scale drops, I figure that is my reward for the hard work. Oh! And wearing the clothes that were too tight before I started the plan.

I like buying myself books (brain candy) , art supplies, music, clothes, and weirdly enough, Wacky or unusual Socks-- from this company:
Sock Dreams ~ unique sexy comfy socks for unique sexy people

And of course, CLOTHES!

I also will make myself a Legal LC Treat. Today, I'm making Portobella Fries and Fried Catfish... Fried Catfish was always something my mom an I went out for-- and was considered a special occasion dinner. And boy-howdy, have I been good this week! :-)

I don't think losing weight is the same as brushing our teeth and the other stuff you mentioned. What works for you doesn't work for everyone.

I love the iTunes idea! I don't reward myself regularly. Today I bought myself a few shirts and they were size medium and fit nicely. It's a reward to me to know that they'll be too big in a month or so.

Hiya Tiffany,

I am not sure if you folks get Orley Whip in the US. It seems to be a South African product. Check out the link?

Oh, that's for sure. I would never say that what works for me would necessarily work for others. Not everyone brushes their teeth three times a day, either.

I was giving some thoughts to ponder while also offering suggestions. For some, making tasks mundane has been the key! It's always a good thing to hear another point of view. I know that's how I learn so much from this board!

After all, if we all did things precisely the same way, how boring would we be!

I think rewards are good. That's what keeps us striving for our next goal. Of course the ultimate reward is losing all our weight, but nothing wrong with doing something for ourselves.
In my opinon, it's hard for me, and with the sacrifices made to not eat the wrong foods, I mean I'm only human and only by the grace of God, I have been able to continue eating this way.

So reward myself. . .you bet!!
