got my mom to join me :) and joined a gym
well, my mom has been really jealous of the weight i have lost
![]() so i explained the diet to her and am gonna be her guide. My mother is Deaf and does not read on a high enough level to understand the book so I am trying to make it as simple as possible... I showed her how to make oopsies today! and we both re joined our gym. we joined back in the summer but i did not have the money to continue to pay for both our membership fees. I talked to the owner who loves mom and she said she would let mom join for ten bucks a month if i joined so .... we joined today we worked out for an hour IT WAS GREAT! i have been stuck at 155 for 3-4 weeks i figure the additional exercise will move the scale..mom is already a diabetic and has not eaten sugar for years so that part will be easy for her... but she is used to high carb no sugar treats... I have several legal recipes to help her with that ... so wish us luck... ![]()

Congrats! That is so wonderful that you are doing this with your mom. I am doing it with my best friend too and it makes it SO much easier to do it with a buddy. Plus you can share all your knowlege, experience and recipes with her to help her along.

If your mom is a type 2 diabetic and used to having sugar free sweets, try making her a sugar free cheesecake after she is done with induction. (If she's doing it) or try making sugar free sheila's fudge or Linda Sue's Magic PB cookies so she won't feel so deprived. They are all YUMMY low carb treats that will help keep her on track and not feel so deprived she wants to quit.
Good luck and post her results often or have her post. |

I think it is awesome that you are helping your mom understand this WOE !!
My dad is deaf & I know what you mean about her having a hard time understanding the book. My dad is too stubborn and set in his ways to try my WOE even though he has seen my results...he will not give it a chance. You are a wonderful daughter![]() |

That is great news. Diet and exercise are the most effective treatments for diabetes, and if you can get your mom to adopt a low carb diet and regularly exercise this could be a life changing event for her.
The real challenge will be to make it last. Remember, introduce you mom slowly over time to exercise and the changes. She may be sore and may dislike the effort. It is more important that she have a good experience and want to return than whether she had a "good" workout. One thing you could do right off is to start her with some exercise goals that she can achieve every time she goes to the gym. Make sure that every time she exercise, she sees some positive achievement. Start with measured times, distances and exertions on various activities. She should be able to break her own records virtually every time she goes to the gym. |
