what's the deal with dreamfields?

i've heard dreamfields referred to here on this board in recipes and such - their claim is for low-carb eaters - so i went to buy some and i looked at the carbs and it's 41g/serving

i went to their website and this is what it says:
"Dreamfields' patent pending formula and unique manufacturing process creates a matrix within the pasta, protecting 31 grams of carbohydrates from being digested."

is this hooey, or is this for real? if i were to eat a serving of their pasta, would it really be like only eating (according to them) 5g of carbs?

i tried spaghetti squash the other day and enjoyed it, but it has 10g/cup! i'm kind of craving something pasta-ish...any suggestions?

I remember trying dreamfields pasta years ago when they first came out. Although i found the taste and texture quite pleasing. And it even fooled my kids. No matter what portion size I tried, the scale just did not like it. I always put on a lb or 2. I finally gave it up. I personally have a hard time believing their claims.

Hubby and I have it every so often. It doesn't hurt us. It is hard to believe their claim...it is very good pasta. We always have 1 serving each which is 1/2 Cup each. Then we load up on crumbled hamburger, onions, green peppers and tomato chunks and cheese for me! It's good if you can only eat one serving, and it is really plenty enough surprisingly! I don't know if you eat more than that! It hasn't affected us... and it is very good!

YMMV item.

It works fine for me and I use it with the family and they like it. I really do not lose if I use it all the time,so it is more of a weekend thing. I do not gain on it.
That is the way I am with anything that tastes really good. I do not gain, but I also do not lose.

Blessings

it is called DREAMFIELDS and rightly so!!!!

I have been using it regularly for about a year. I have never stalled. Tastes like Ronzoni or any other pasta. Eat it "al dente" Mind the portion sizes, and the things you put in it and on it, and u will be fine. I only wish i had some latinum to invest in their company. I don't know why they don't advertise in the media. Love & Profits; FLATFERENGHI

I have seen a commercial for their product and they always have an ad in Readers Digest.

Ok, so here is the claim for dreamfields. The carbs have been modified so that they for whatever reason don't convert to blood sugar. As a diabetic, I measure my blood sugar often, and I can tell you dreamfields has a much smaller effect on my blood sugar. Anecdotally, different people have different reactions. I actually think that the carbs have been treated in some way to make them indigestible. If so, different people with different digestions may have different reactions.

Things I have heard include suggestions that you just promptly cook the past, don't overcook it or reheat it. If you do that then the pasta will no longer be "special".

As to spaghetti squash, yes it is 10 g/cup, but 2g is fiber. Compare this to a cup of spaghetti at like 40g/cup. In a low carb diet, spaghetti squash is a quite workable sub for spaghetti.

This really isn't pasta like per se, but depending on what I'm making I'll use cooked shredded cabbage or riced cauliflower (for curries), zucchini "noodles" stir fried in butter for marinara sauce or cream sauces, I've even used stir fried broccoli slaw in place of noodles. They definitely do not taste like pasta or resemble it even in the slightest way, but they all make great carriers for sauces. I've tried dreamfields, and it's good, but my digestive system does not care for it AT ALL. Every now and again I'll make organic brown rice noodles and only eat 2 oz. I maybe eat those once every couple of months though when DH whines for pasta.

I use it and it doesn't have any bad effects on me at all. It tastes like any other semolina (sp?) pasta.

Jerusalem Artichoke Pasta

There's a pasta with jerusalem artichoke that is similar. JA is inulin, or the same fiber that's in Dreamfields that renders the carbs "indigestible". I wonder how this tastes? Sounds like the same thing to me. I know Dreamfields tastes just like the real think. Good to have it as an option in this WOE and I may try the other one too.

I just had this for the first time last night. The taste is the same but about 30 mins. after I eat it I was so bloated I looked like I was 5 months along. I gave the rest to my DD & told her if she wanted to try it go ahead because I won't but it again.

that's what happens to me too, it literally clogs me up for days. It does taste just like regular pasta, but I don't like pasta enough to suffer like that. We may just be the lucky few that have this side effect. DH doesn't have any problems with it.
