I've been in similar situations and agree with Hanlie that not drinking can make things awkward. I have sometimes just lied and said I was hungover from the previous night when I didn't want to drink. They just laughed and commiserated and didn't think any more about it.

I don't particularly want to get into a social debate about alcohol and client facing events. I simply wanted feedback.

Thanks for your assistance.

I got a easy response for you. Tell them with the mdication your doc put you on,you cannot mix alcohol with it.

Hi all,

I would like to thank all of you for replying. There have been some wonderful pieces of advice, which I will definitely make use of! I will definitely keep hydrated and maybe invest in some charcoal.

I would also like to thank the people who responded with differing opinions on client functions/relations and drinking. It is always good to get a reality check and see what other people have to say. Thank goodness we are all unique and have a different perspective on the world!

The only thing that doesn't give me a hangover or headache is vodka, club soda, squirt of lemon/lime. I can have 2 w/o ill effect, if I have 3 or more I usually feel like death warmed over (chills, headache, nausa, etc). I used to be able to drink A LOT, but LC'ing makes me a lot more sensitive. I don't drink regularly, maybe 2 or 3 times a month.

You could be the designated driver.
You could nurse 1 drink all night. Order some water to go with that drink.
You could order a drink and let a companion drink it for you. I know of recovering alcoholics who do this. No one notices they aren't drinking.
You could quietly tell the barmaid to make yours a virgin.

No one should feel like they have to drink anything or eat anything just to be social. If you don't make a big deal out of it, no one should care.

And yes, on LC, alcohol takes effect a lot quicker.
