Eating Chicken Liver
It seems to be all that I'm craving lately!! I remember posting about whether there's carbs in liver before, and I think most of you said it did.
I just need to double check, because when I went on this nutrtional info site it said it had zero carbs. Also, anyone here love to eat liver? Do you still manage to lose? |

No I don't take any vitamins. I should, but I never remember them. It's either my body lacking something, or it's just the fact that when I discover a new recipe I like, I tend it eat it to death.

I'll never forget when our Secretary had a terrible craving for chicken livers. She spent a good part of the morning on the phone trying to find someplace where she could have them for lunch.
She ended up with a big bag of them that she got from the Walmart Deli. She had so many, that she brought them back to share. I had never had chicken livers before, so I tried one. Now I admit that she said they took them from the freezer to cook for her and mine was not cooked all the way through. Perhaps if it had been, I would have liked it better. Or maybe it's one of those things that if you're raised on, you crave. She went all around the building giving out those chicken livers. People either grabbed them up with excitement or turned up their noses immediately (no inbetween)!I was raised with beef liver and onions, and I do crave it once in awhile. Check the nutritional info on several different sites and compare. I like to use Calorie King CalorieKing - Diet and weight loss. Calorie Counter and more. But I say if you're craving them, you should eat them! I believe they do have carbs, but not enough to keep you from being able to enjoy them once in awhile. Maria

Chicken livers are delicious. I use them in chopped liver, sauteed with onions, in spaghetti (squash!) a la romana, and a few in bolognese sauce. I generally like italian preparations for them, which are numerous.
Also, go for it! They are supremely good for you. |

The only restaurant I have found them was HomeTown Buffet. They were served with sauteed onions and celery. I believe they either had a bit of flour coating on them or there was roux in the pan they cooked in. I thought they were delicious, and I have to agree with maria40nc that I would find them disgusting if they were not cooked all the way through.
However, that being said, I was not raised on chicken livers, rather, my maternal Grandmother made beef chopped liver, with onions, mayo, hard-boiled eggs, and salt. That is the most difficult thing to find to actually buy at a deli or anywhere else, but I remember the taste was amazing! I'd love to get my hands on some, and I have made it before, but what a process...I even have a meat grinder, but it is not easy to grind beef liver. I don't know what you call the stuff that gets in the way, but it has to be taken off, and it jams up the grinder, and it became such a tedious process that I haven't bothered to try again. I also really enjoy fried liver and onions, but it's not an everyday type of meal, nor should it be. I think organ meats are supposed to be kept to only once or twice a week, right? I don't care for the other types of organ meats, like heart, or kidneys, so I think it is a matter of what types of food you ate growing up and developed a taste for; not that you can't develop a taste for something new later on, but for many people, liver is at the very bottom. Like was said, either you love 'em, or you hate 'em, no inbetween.

Vitamin A need possibly?
Lucky, why aren't you on supplements? There are some that are necessary unless you're getting these vitamins and minerals from your food. I'm pretty confident when I say CLO would be one that you need desperately and what about our Mia? Is she getting CLO? It would be a wonderful supplement for her as well. |

I've never eaten liver, but I often get a craving for it. Don't know why. It's really very odd.

Okay, lucky--what's your recipe? I love chicken liver once in awhile and would love to know a new way to fix besides breaded and fried.

Recluse - thank you! It's always nice to wake up with a compliment.

And enjoy. The whole process takes about 15 minutes I think. I usually throw in the ingredients, then play with the baby, and it's a very easy thing to make. |

I make my chopped chicken livers this way and they're WONDERFUL, so says everyone who has eaten them.
Saute 1 large chopped onion in 1 tbl. chicken fat til slightly browned. Remove them and put 1 lb. chicken livers in same pan with little salt & pepper and saute just til pink disappears. DO NOT OVERCOOK....a bit of pink is fine. Add onions and livers to food processor along with 1 tbl. melted chicken fat, pinch salt and 3 oz. cream cheese. Taste for seasoning and refrigerate til serving. Should be served at room temp. |

Chicken liver! I have never tried this, and need to - though I'm not sure where it is served. Thank you for the recommendation, luckylychee.
