Citricil or Metamucil???

I have always been a little "Irregular" but used to take Citricul when that happened....the sugar free one tastes terrible....does anyone recommend anything else to help keep me regular?

I've had a problem with constipation all my life, and nothing seems to work. Magnesium helps, but what I've found recently is that about a half cup of plain yoghut at bedtime keeps me regular. I guess it's the probiotics in the yoghurt--who knew?

The nurse practitioner at my doctor's office advised me to just get regular yoghurt, as those brands that promise to "fix" your GI tract are just 'marketing,' according to her. I eat Stonyfield's organic--and I love it.

Ditto on the magnesium, fat, and probiotics.

I had taken fiber supplements most of my adult life, and I only kept getting worse.

Get off the fiber, and give your body what it really needs. (It'll thank you for it!)

my son has chronic constipation which is controlled by taking Miralax everyday. It is not a fiber supplement or anything. The way his GI doc explains it helps his intestines retain water so everything comes out better, the stools are softer. It is not addictive. Not sure if there is carbs or anything in it though. But anyways he has been on it for 2 years now and never has constipation problems now. You can get it at just about any drug store.

I use sugar free orange flavored Metamucil. I have no problem at all. I tastes like Tang to me - and I drink the glass down right away. I wonder if most people try to sip it...then it gets a weird consistancy which would gag me!

Your son may really benefit from pro-biotics. The miralax is polyehtalene Glycol. I have been recommending infant probiotics to two women with babies this week. Constipation is a real issue among children right now and a great deal of evidence supports the fact that their flora is not right. If the flora is not corrected, the child will continue to have further issues with illness, yeast, withholding, etc.

No Sandi, the pro-biotics are such a nice addition. We have to balance our bacteria. There's so much out there that it must be counter balanced with good bacteria.
