Back, after a long fall off the wagon.....
I was quite a regular here a few years ago....
In 2005, after losing my Dad to heart disease, I took a long, hard look at myself and my eating habits, and decided to change things, or I'd end up like my Dad. I began a low carb lifestyle and lost 80 pounds - surpassed my original goal of 160, and floated around 148/150 for a good year. I had a bit of a "treat filled" Christmas in 2006, and when the end of January came and I hadn't gained any weight I thought "ok, so I can have the odd junk food treat, and be ok".... Before I knew it, here I am, at 40 pounds heavier. The day after Labour Day, with the kids back in school, DH and I both began our new low carb lifestyle together. We're both doing great, and feel we can live with this forever. I found an Atkins DVD for $1 at the local Zellers store, so I brought it home to check out. Haven't watched it yet, but the reading material that came with it has been very helpful. Near the end of the little "starter" book, it mentions that once on maintenance, you can have those whole grains and fruits. But the one carb you should never add back in is sugar. THAT is where I went wrong - sugar, sugar and more sugar!! I'm mad at myself for getting this way, and am determined to get back to my goal!!
