I couldn't do it - wouldn't want to do it!
I don't think I would like/enjoy exercise to that extreme - I like my workouts right now....makes me feel good. Don't think that would. |

I'd love to have a trainer...
However, I wouldn't be able to go on national television and step on a scale! If I could only eat 1200 calories and had to burn 4000 ![]() They would have to put me in a wheel-barrow and prop me up for the shows!!!!! Atkins works fine for me. ![]() |

Sure, I could do it. At that ranch with no job, housework, etc. I dream of being able to work out like that for days on end. I know for me when I am working that hard, my hunger is extremely depressed. I'd love to see how a lifestyle like that would affect my stubborn gut.
I find it fascinating that some people still do not lose all that fast, even under such extreme circumstances. Shows to go ya that the same old formula stuff does not work in some folks. Like some have said I am underwhelmed at the media message, yet again, that says it has to be fast, quick, now. Not real sure that the lessons learned will stick over time for these folks. I was reading about one ex-BL who works out 4 hours a day to maintain...come now, how likely is that for most mid-income folks? |

I had a chance to meet Poppy (from the year they did States). She said they exercised 4-6 hours a day. It was cardio and weights, but most of it was interval training (mixing cardio with weights).
Every time I've seen that show I think, "Man, I don't want to see their knees when they hit their 40s and 50s." Great way to support your local knee replacement surgeon. ![]() |

The show makes me mad because they show obese people as quivering globs of molten fatness in front of chocolate fountains. It makes us all look like ridiculously out of control adipose-laden lamers with no minds of our own.

I was actually thinking that would be my biggest problem with trying to do the competition. Not being tired but just being injured. My ankles can only take so much, and my knees would certainly rebel. They must have been doing mostly easy on the joint exercises? I just can't see someone who weighs 300 pounds pounding their feet on the ground for 4 hours a day and not needing surgery on day one.

Exactly - and for those reasons I just will not watch it. It is degrading - yes the contestants know it and still sign up for it but I cannot handle the humiliation they are put through. |

Then you really couldnt watch it this season. Jillian treats them like DAWGS this season, very theatrical and overly mean. I mean it. But Im still watchin.

I agree. I guess they have to make the obese look absolutely dysfunctional and anti-fashion in order to fully 'transform' them. They take these people, use them up, get their ratings and then toss them out into the world on their own under sets of circumstances where you just can't exercise for hours a day and have food monitored, let alone the added pressure from lack of competition or support that drives many to continue to accomplish their goals. |

I also dislike the show. It's just the networks using people's eating disorders for their own benefit...and I just don't think it will be sustained by most...or even could be sustained. It offers little in the way of advice to help the overweight public...because of that, it becomes little more than "let's watch the fatty" entertainment. I'll skip it.

They workout for 6-8 hours a day but only tell the public that is 5 hours a day. I am friends with Bill who won two seasons ago and he also said that they have one cheat day a week. It's sunday and they can eat whatever they want, they don't tell the public that either. It shakes up their metabolisms and they fell sluggish, bloated and crappy afterwards so they are desperately looking forward to eating healhty at their next meal.
Not every contestant partakes in the cheat day, some chose to skip...Bill did and won. They also do the weigh-ins in the am on an empty stomach but don't tell the contestants what their numbers are....they then come back at night to film the "weigh in" again and their weight has been progammed in from earlier that day. They are heavily supervised by doctors, trainers and sports rehab docs daily. I am a HUGE fan of the show and love to watch it for motivation. I wish I could have Jillian as my trainer! |

Yes, they look great. I have tried the concept of cheat day and find it just brings me back to square one for the whole month.

Yes, I have always liked a boot camp mean trainer. I did gymnastics for 12 years as a child and consistently came home complaining my coaches were too easy. I would probably do really well in the military cause I like that mentality.
I have a friend trains me now and he sucks, he is too nice and lets me slack off....but he is free! I told him that he needs to watch The BIggest Loser and train me like Jillian does.....he hasn't ![]() Last edited by Tiffany2288 : 09-23-2008 at 09:53 AM. |

We have one of those hard a$$ trainers at my gym. He has clients lifting kettle bells, walking around with a giant weighted sled, boxing, jump roping, lots of football moves. I get tired just looking at them.

You can train hard without your trainer being a complete a--hole during the session. I get all out of my trainer as described above. She works me as hard as Jillian, but is way nicer.

BTW, The Australian Biggest Loser Season 1's Winner Adro, lost his weight eating low carb/high protein. But you never heard that mentioned on the show.

after watching the premier on youtube:
i would love to have the oppty to workout with a trainer like the Biggest Loser folks do for months on end. these folks are really, really, really lucky and fortunate. i love to work out, so when i see them whining and grumbling, i get kinda angry! |

I could do it if I was on the show and had no responsibilities. Nutrition and exercise could just be my life! LOL.
Not sure I could do it at home, well, at least not at that intensity and pace. I wouldn't mind Jillian as my trainer even if she is a B----. |

Ferenghi, yes you could. it's all about how/what you build up to. They work up to their abilities, not get dumped into high intensity and advanced moves right off the bat.

I wouldn't because I know exactly what would happen. I'd go on, lose it all super quickly, then as soon as I was out of there I'd gain it all back even faster because I lost it too fast and I ate carbs! Then I'd have giant stretch marks and feel awful and there would be ugly photos of me in the "where are they now" sections of the tabloids.
I think it's just cruel what they do to those contestants. The thing is before I found this WOE I used to wish I could go on there. I was so desperate to find a solution back then. Thank goodness I found Dr. A and this board!! I much prefer it this way! ![]()
