Water Fasting

Hey.. First off, I just found this forum.. and am beginning to become fascinated by it.
Secondly, I came across at post here about a bunch of you who were water fasting.
I was wondering what was the longest that one of you stayed on it, and what were you results? I saw there was about 30 pages, and I skimmed through a lot of the posts, but I didn't see if anyone actually made it 30 days.
I'm entertaining the idea of a fast, bc I believe my body needs a good detox to kick start my system.
Just wondering if anyone is still doing it.

I don't water fast. I honestly don't think that I could survive.

But, you might have better results posting this on the OTHER PLANS forum or checking the challenge forum. I recall seeing a thread there that talked about it. Maybe it was the IF challenge thread?

As Dr A said, you are better off getting into ketosis through lowcarbing and then you can try a fast. But you will discover you don't need to because ketosis works.
If you want to fast a day, go ahead, but it is much easier when you are already in ketosis. Intermittent daily fasting is good for you, and not just physically. Setting out to do a long fast is usually a recipe to make yourself feel like a failure.
I have done and know a number of people who have done much longer fasts for religious purposes, but that takes an incredible amount of preparation and support and is still HARD. And that weight lost ALWAYS comes back, often in a flabbier form.
Be really contemplative and informed before undertaking even a short fast.
We are all here to improve our health through lowcarbing and the support is fantastic.

There is fairly large percentage of people, according to medical reports I have seen, that have diabetes and do not know it.

These fasting diets always worry me because they can be fatal to people with undiagnosed diseases which would be affected by such fasting.

As another poster indicated, and even Atkins wrote, you will lose more weight following a ketonic diet than not eating.

extended water fasting is very hard on the body.
Even my administrator who supervises vitality fasting retreats uses vegetable juices, fruit juices, miso soup, herbal teas and green powders. Fasting also requires the mind to rest through meditation, nature walks and the like.

Be good to your body and know that with the correct implementaiton of foods works very hard to cleanse itself. You want to support that not supress it.
