Lookin' old

I have lost 15 pounds. (125) I would like to lose another 5. (120) I am 5'5'' and I believe I look old when I lose too much weight. Does anyone feel the same or maybe I am just old.

well, there isn't much we can do about getting OLD-er ,
(other than things like BOTOX, etc, etc..)

.....but we can definitely do something about being FAT...
so, that's something we can control, ( unlike age) , and something to aim for and continue aspire towqards. Don't you think so, too ?

Might as well be older and
thin

than older and
fat....

agreed ?

I am one of those who now looks older than my age after losing a grand total of more than 70 pounds from my highest (age 55). I never put on that much weight in my face yet now I have so many wrinkles and the jowls are bad. I still have more weight to lose (5'5 153 pds) and yesterday at a wedding people were telling me not to lose more weight because I was looking older than I was. I am not big boned and do not plan to get too thin, but I will be very happy at a 140. Sure I need a face lift (and thigh lift), but at least I feel healthy and I know the doctor will not be telling me to lose weight. It would not be worth it too me to put the weight back on just to look younger, yet feel older.

Some people look older in the face when they lose... I know that I loved how my body looked at my lowest, but thought I looked older in the face... and so did everyone else, I stopped getting ID'd.

I have read somewhere that there are facial exercises you can do to firm up the wattles and neck area. ???

I have lost almost 70 lbs and defintely have the turkey wattle thing going on. I can hide the poochy pan and the thighs, but not the wattle. Still rather be where I'm at now vs the double chin.

Well, I'm 52 (nearly 53) and people tell me all the time I look 30ish. I think its due to the total LACK of sugar in my diet ... sugar is great for making wrinkles ...

I would suggest lots of water...and the total avoidance of anything remotely STARCH.

And yes, exercise. LOTS AND LOTS OF IT.

Well I am 43 and people tell me I look 30..

Ditto what Betty said about sugar. Also I believe grains are aging (I just watched a video of my sister taken 5 years ago before she quit gluten... she looked 10 years older than she does now being gluten free).

Also, FAT intake is important. That being NO VEGETABLE FATS EVER, only saturated nut oils like coconut/palm and the fat we get from our meats, eggs and dairy.

Vegetable fats are toxic to our cells.. inside AND out.

I'm not at goal yet, still realistically another 30-40 lbs to go but most people tell me I look much younger right now than I did 142 lbs ago. Here are 2 similar views of my face:

Yup..I defiantly upped my goal for that exact reason. When I got to my chart weight..my face looked gaunt and OLD! people kept asking me if I was ill. I got very hallow in the face..and dark circles under my eyes. I ended up having my goal be about 6-8 lbs above my chart goal and I looked sooo much healthier. Sure..I could have ended-up in a size 6..but 8's and 10's looked A-ok!

I just want to add that EVERYONE should have a skin regime that includes:

Daily moisturizer with SPF 15 at least
Eye Cream
Nightly face cream.

I do not use SPF anything... there is conflicting information out there about the safety of it.

I also do not think commercial beauty products are safe either..

www.cosmeticdatabase.com

I use none of the above and I just wanted to throw that out there. I believe Coconut oil to be superior to anything you find in a drug store.

Just my 2cents

Due to gaping loopholes in federal law, companies can put virtually any ingredient into personal care products. Even worse, the government does not require pre-market safety tests for any of them.

I use only ALL NATURAL face wash, moisturizer, eye serum and vitamin c face cream - and natural physical barrier SPF. I STRONGLY believe that the sun causes aging and have been wearing spf 15 on my face since I was fourteen. I am thirty two so its too early to say but I have NO wrinkles. Not even fine lines.

I am 43 and have no wrinkles and have been suntanned most of my life... and I have never used SPF. (I also have no makeup on in my after picture in my avi... I never wear anything but mascara anyway... maybe a bit of blush in the winter)

Pacific Islander Natives also never use SPF and use CO every day externally and internally, and also look very, very young.

I believe genetics also play a part.. but I am not going to risk putting toxins on my face so I appear younger. Although I am sure there are women who are willing to do that...

I believe of feeding the skin from the inside.

But of course YMMV

ETA: I could very well look 100 once I reach goal.. I have never been below 140 in my adult life so time will tell

Oh, I want you to know that the toxic stuff on my face was not directed at your regime! All natural sounds waaaaaaaaay better than some of the stuff I see being used.

Well I sure can't argue that you don't look great! You look amazing. I also think genetics plays a part. I'm half italian and I think that mediteranean DNA helps!

My genes are pretty good, so other than the loose skin where chins used to be, face looks less than my 55 years, body's another whole deal.

well there is no wrong way to use it!

eat it, cook with it, slather it on..

add some sugar (or xylitol) and exfoliate your entire body with it.

oh, and eat it

Just make sure it is the best possible virgin oil to get the best benefits...

Stats: 45 years old, 5'7"

I don't know about "older," but I did look more gaunt when I got below 120 lbs. three years ago. I was playing a role that required I be slightly underweight (crack addict) and had me showing a lot of skin (*ahem* read: all of it.) I did A LOT of pilates and stayed pretty much in induction for about 9 months.

When the show was over, I realized that I didn't feel that great and immediately decided to gain back 5 lbs to put me around 122 lbs. That kept me comfortably in size 2's. It wasn't until I gained back an additional 5 lbs. that people started telling me, "You look great!" I realized it was because my face had filled out a bit, but I wasn't happy at 127 (size 4/6) and it's not exactly "industry standard." However, when I shot up to 142 I figured I'd be thrilled with anything under 130 lbs. That's when I restarted Atkins.

Currently, I'm back down to under 130 and need to revise my goal of 122 lbs. (I was working toward another role that was "revealing," but that got scrapped when I got my new job as a professor.)

I don't think I want to try to get back down to size 2; it's too difficult and my SO keeps reminding me that my face looks better at my current weight. So, I'll stick with where I am, keep my fuller face, and keep working out to get more toned.

When I got down to 137 in 2003 at age 55 my neck started to look really wattley and I went back up to 142 for that reason, which is where I maintain.

I had no wrinkles at all at 43. By 47, it was another story. I had blond hair when I was young and the kind of thin skin you can see the veins through. That kind of skin always wrinkles. The darker your skin, though, the more lucky you might be. Many black people can get into their 80s unwrinkled. It's probably the protective effect of the pigment in the skin which keeps the sun's rays from doing damage.

Re moisturizers. If you have any history of skin cancer in your family, avoid any cream that contains mineral oil. There is solid evidence that mineral oil promotes skin tumor growth. This is not new information, but it has been downplayed by the cosmetics industry.
Here's an interesting blog post that summarizes the research that should make all of us think twice before using these products:

Skin Cancer - Moisturizer and Skin Cancer

Kim, agreed. You look far younger w/o the extra weight!

I think exercise -- all forms -- does WONDERS -- NO, MIRACLES -- for keeping us looking more youthful. A body with a higher percentage of lean body mass is going to "LOOK" far more youthful than one with higher body fat. Fact.

And yes, there are lots of exercises one can do for the facial/neck area that help tremendously.

(May I suggest Callanetics....)

I also agree with CO for moisturizing.

Exercise is key to youth.

Thanks so much! I've actually ordered Callanetics 10 years younger in 10 hours and Advanced Callanetics and it should be here tomorrow! I'm looking forward to giving it a try. I'd like to strengthen my core and target waist/hips/thighs to see if I can tone under the loose skin and make it look better--Spanx is great but not always the most mood inducing garment....
