Tiny Device Tracks Fitness

Two-thirds of Americans are overweight, and that got one tech start-up thinking.

Fitbit has developed a tiny, iPod Shuffle-size device that tracks your fitness. It presented the Tracker device at the Tech-Crunch50 conference in San Francisco this week.

Priced at less than $100, the Fitbit Tracker uses built-in motion detectors to measure your activities-exercise intensity levels, calories burned, sleep quality, steps and distance. It can be clipped onto clothing or slipped into a pocket.

An LED screen displays data for each activity and an image shows an overall view of how active you are throughout the day. Data collected is wirelessly transmitted to a corresponding website, where you can track progress toward personal health and wellness goals. Information is represented in graphs, animations and other displays. The device and website should be available by January. It's "a motivational tool", Fitbit CEO James Park says.

Sounds cool. I'd get one.

I know I am very active at work, but I'd be curious to see "how much".

Hi d-tona...
I have an analog version that let's me know how I'm doing - it's called a 'waistband'. It lets me know instantly how I'm doing.

In fact I have these in several sizes ranging from ''loose'' to ''still need some time''.

I would definitely buy one of those! Sounds kinda like the Body Bugg (which I never got into b/c I would hate wearing that big bulky thing on my arm).
