What are using to wash your face?
Ever since starting this WOL, I noticed that my face has become more oily. I know it's probably from my increased fat consumption, but I notice I break out easier. I've tried the sugar/CO scrub, but it leaves my face (and the shower floor, the shower head, my hands, etc.) so greasy. Also, I break out worse after using it.
So, what are you all using to keep your skin looking supple and acne-free? Thanks! |

I have this problem too. I was oily to begin with, and CO only made it worse!
I found something called Dr. Bronners tea tree oil soap. I like it, even if it's a bit stinky. Then I follow up with Albas organic toner to get anything I miss. Then I use a Dr. Denese (from QVC) firming face pads. They have glycolic acid in them, and is really great with controlling my oil. I can't even use a moisturizer as it will cause an oil slick, but the Dr. Denese pads are great with moisturizing enough without making me going wild with oil.

I've been using different acne washes. My face is oily in places and extremely dry in others (NOSE)! I envy the ones who say their complexion has gotten better with LC because mine is worse than it ever was as a teen and I'm in my 30's. It's horrible.

usually acne washes do not help me... i put rubbing alcohol on a little cotton square pad and rub it on my face... it cleans my face and i dont have any acne issues.... i've been doing this for years... i do it in the morning, lunch time and night time... any more than that dries out my skin...

I use l'oreal cleansing products... a foaming face wash every morning and night, 3 times a week i use a exfoliating scrub instead of the face wash in the morning shower.
I'm greek so i do tend to have oily skin but this is good for me. |

One of the things I use is Avalon Organics Vitamin C Sun-Aging Defense Refreshing Cleansing Gel for normal to oily skin. It is expensive-$11 for a 8.5 oz bottle-but it is worth it.
This is the only thing I have found-being a cleansing gel-that does not break out my face...I tried CO, too-and all it did was turn my face red. Another method people can use who are sensitive to cleansing products-a natural method I have been known to use at times: banana for a creamy cleanser apple cider vinegar for a toner Vitamin E Oil or Olive Oil for a moisturizer Avocado as an exfoliator Dyan

I use Oil. Jojoba, Coconut oil or Olive oil. I know it sounds CRAZY and the last thing you would want to do for oily skin, but I SWEAR this really works and is amazing.
I'll never use soap on my face again. Here is an old thread on it, if you are interested. You also could do a search on the net and find all kinds of information on it. OT: The Oil Cleansing Method |

I use good ol' Ivory soap, unscented, regular bar. Sometimes I will also use rubbing alcohol if my face starts breaking out, that way I'm sure its clean and I follow up with an oil-free face lotion (usually Suave). One thing I do with my lotion is to put it on generously and then use a clean washcloth to rub off the excess.
Another trick for acne that I use is Pure Tea Tree Oil. If I feel a breakout coming on or even if one has happened, just dab a little of the oil on it (at night as it is strong smelling) and it should be gone by morning. Plus you'll clear your sinuses too! It can usually be found in the vitamin/supplement aisles. I tried the oil cleansing and it just made me feel oilier but that was also in the summer and I sweat when its humid, it might work fine in the winter months, I'll try it again then because I did like the way my skin looked, just not how it felt.

I bought jojoba oil for this purpose and I've been using it for a month or more and sadly it hasn't helped me at first I thought it was but my skin is still bad and my nose is still flaking. ![]() I also use tea tree oil but my skin is extremely sensitive to it and it usually burns it but I love tea tree oil. I use oil too, but it is from DHC and it dissolves in water. It's called Deep Cleansing Oil. It leaves my skin clean and not overstripped.

Grapeseed oil is wonderful for the skin. It has a mild antiseptic property and its makeup is small enough to be absorbed by skin. I've used it for years and seldom get a break out. I use it on clients as well and they always comment on how great their skin feels after they leave...soft but not greasy. It has no smell, but you can add different oils to it for scent. Hope this helps!

OP - Did you ever try using digestive enzymes? If eating more fat makes your face oilier that could mean that you are not digesting the fats properly.
I take source naturals essential enzymes with every meal. |

I use Serious Skincare's Vitamin C line. I've never had any problem with their products and my skin is very sensitive. I can even use the scrub on my face 2-3 times per week. I get it from HSN, it's MUCH cheaper there than on the SS site. Hope that helps!

Cetaphil. It's gentle and cleans without over-drying. It comes in various formulations, so there might be one for oily skin. I just use the regular one. Doesn't foam, doesn't scrub, has very little odor. It's a classic and really leaves your skin soft.

I like variety in every shower with facial cleansers - and shampoos/conditioners, too. A different one every time.
All of them get a nod from my derm, so they're a go!![]() ![]() I use the Olay cleanser at night; it is a CHAMP at removing all traces of eye makeup, too. The reason I like the Sensitive Skin version is because I use actives like Retin-A, glycolic acid, etc. ![]() This one is for oily skin, yet does not strip it. ![]()

ok this sounds horrible.. but I dont wash my face with anything! I wash it in the shower with water and then once a week I use a very gentle cleanser on my nose and chin (the places that are suseptible to blackheads).
I had horrible skin problems when I was a teen due to malnutrition etc and my skin is also extremely sensitive. Ive tried every cleanser there is.. and they exaberate the sensitivity. Unless I eat dairy.. my skin is perfect. If I eat dairy I get bad breakouts, just like I did then. and boy, do they hurt! so... I dont eat dairy. I am in my mid 30s and look like Im in my 20s because of my skin.. and TRUST ME my skin was HORRIFIC until I took care of my health. Technically I should have all kinds of scars etc.. but I dont. I think it was Christy Turlington (Im probably wrong but I know it was a model) who said she doesnt wash her face either.. just goes to bed. sounds horrible, I know.. but Im a very clean girl I promise! I think for me it just strips the oils that my skin needs and dries it out. even ivory soap make it tight. water does the job just fine!

Mina, me too. I don't use anything on my face. I wash with water in the shower and in the winter will use some Oil of Olay lotion if my skin gets dry. I don't know where I heard this either, but have not used anything on my face except water for about 20 years. I am often complimented on my skin.

I've got Cetaphil also and mint julep mask, also a mud mask. I'm thinking my breakouts are due to hormone imbalance because even my TOM is screwed up, badly.

I will have to look into Dr. Bronner's tea tree oil soap. Right now I use their peppermint oil soap with coconut and other oils in it. I also use an all natural brightening serum called Light Switch. But the main thing that has kept my face from being oily (cause I used to have REALLY oily skin) was using a moisturizer (I use Kiss My Face creme de nuit). It's counter intuitive but when your face isn't getting moisturized, it will produce more oil to keep it from getting dried out. I hope this helps the OP.

after checking every product I have ever used on my face into
www.cosmeticdatabase.com I use only cetaphil in the shower (and my baby/kids...) and only jojoba/EVCO on my face... I will never spend another cent on a face product (except blush and mascara of course LOL) you would be alarmed.... baby soaps and lotions are the worst ![]() FYI: Due to gaping loopholes in federal law, companies can put virtually any ingredient into personal care products. Even worse, the government does not require pre-market safety tests for any of them. |

SHeila - I use the Olay face wash at night too! It takes makeup off in a breeze. I use this one:
![]() In the morning I use the Olay bar soap in the shower, St. Ives Apricot Scrub for exfoliating and Olay SPF 30 moisturizer before I put on my makeup. I have been doing this routine since high school and I am always complimented on my skin. I also have oily skin but these products dont cause problems. ![]() |
