Busted for possession!!..

of melatonin!

I live on a military base, and we have to show our ID to enter through a checkpoint. The police man the station. When I entered this morning, I was told they were having random vehicle checks. I was told to pull over to the side, and 3 cops came over with the mirrors on sticks, the whole shebang. I had to open all of my doors pop the hood, and open the trunk while they searched the car. And they checked EVERYTHING.

Not a big deal to me. Then one popped his head out and said, "I found something." It was a bottle of pills. They all gathered around him and then came over to me, asking me what it was, as if it was some illegal drug. It was only my melatonin from Trader Joe's, but of course they had never heard of it and who knows what they thought it was. I actually had to pull out my receipt and then explain to them what it was for.

Luckily I wasn't late or anything, so it wasn't a big deal. Since the only other things they found in the car were my cloth shopping bags, soccer balls, crumbs and a few Jack Johnson CD's, I was allowed to go. They did manage to open the glove compartment where I keep a stash of "personal feminine products", as there were 4 of them laying on the passanger floormat. I bet that was a surprise as they came flying out! I also had an empty bottle of malt liquor in the trunk that I had to explain..I had found it laying on the ground by the car, so I picked it up to recycle it like always and get the 5 c for it. I had thought about telling him I drank it first, but he had no sense of humor whatsoever!

Anyway, the one day I transport my drugs and beer, look what happens.

...Or powdered erythitol! Not that I've seen any, but I have a sneaking suspicion it looks like cocaine.

BTW - you can get Melatonin tea. Sometimes, I drink one in the evening. It comes in Mango flavored, lemon or orange. Wonder if that would send up the radar on you instead of the pills?

A friend of mine actually had to go to an "interview room" at the local police station once after being stopped at a road block because he had a ziploc bag with powdered SPLENDA in his gym bag (he mixed it with his protein powder for his after-workout drink.) They thought it was nose candy.

Speaking of that... I went through the airport with a baggie of powdered glutamine. Try explaining that!! Now, when traveling, I always only carry stuff in capsule form in the bottle that is labeled!!

Hey Kris, does Melatonin make you have off the wall dreams? I took it a couple times and my dreams were so vivid. It was too weird for me. Now I'm just sleep deprived!!

Actually, this is a very important thing to be aware of. I carry vitamins around in an empty film container (one of the old school ones, for "real film," not a digital camera). I know I'm taking a risk -- if you get pulled over for something, and they decide to search your car (or your person, if you have it "on you"), you can get in real trouble if you have random, unlabeled pills and can't prove what they are.

It's a pain in the butt to carry things in their original containers, though, especially protein powder and vitamins/supps that come in large bottles. I don't know what the solution is...maybe just hope you come across a friendly/understanding cop?

Yep, you've got that right!

Michelle-so far no odd dreams, but I don't take it consistently either. I never want to become dependent on anything, even if it's considered 'natural'.
