"Everytime someone 'gets it' it just makes my endeavors worthy. Just the other day, I was able to read a pm from a member, refer her to a doctor who does good thyroid (and she has been suffering for years and couldn't get treatment, like many), and she's had an appointment, is indeed hypothyroid with low adrenals, and started on replacement hormone and adrenal support all in less than a week. Talk about a home run!! DH asked me "Are ya gonna be able to fit that head through the doorway now?"

Pam

I'M the home run Pam's talking about, and I just want to publicly say a heart-felt thank-you to her!! And thanks to the person who gave her the good doctor's name as a referral!!

Now I just have to buckle down and read all you guys' ideas and experiences with low thyroid/Atkins and get busy... I've been way too lax for way too long!

Good luck to you all on your health care journeys, and thank-you again, Pam!!!

Elaine

If you're eating this by pulling off the skin to avoid the breading, you're probably not getting rid of all the carby breading plus missing out on all the wonderful fat in the skin. And, I've noticed in the past when I tried this that the meat is very salty underneath.

Might want to just buy a package of raw thighs and bake them up with your own seasoning mix so you know what's in there.

Plus deli chicken and frozen breasts are often injected or plumped with fillers with lots of sodium and msg sometimes also carby spices.

Oh my dear! You don't understand!!!

This is possibly the best Deli chicken in the Midwest! LOL. And 64c a piece?

Seriously, it's baked, not fried, and I'm eating the skin. There isn't a whole lot of seasoning on it. My guess is a sprinkle on rotisserie type seasoning. At any rate, when you haven't cooked yet and you're hungry it's a good choice, IMO. Now their fried chicken OTOH...oh man, it's from the debbil.

I do bake up a couple packages of chicken thighs myself per week, I love them. This is just a treat my DH brings me when he stops at the Deli for his OWN Fried Chicken Addiction. I'm serious, this Kroger makes the best...it's better than KFC.

Now that could be a problem. Next time I'm in there I will ask them. The only complaint I would have about these chicken thighs is that they are fairly small.

But you know, maybe I should consider what seasoning because there has to be some reason they taste so DARN good! Probably IS MSG, just not enough so I could "feel" it. MSG makes me retain water like crazy.

At any rate, I told DH he doesn't need to bring them home more than once a week. I do plenty of my own cooking and chicken is something I always keep in the freezer (free range and hormone free no less).

I've told him (since we are being transferred soon) that one of the criteria he needs to give to HR is, do they have good fried chicken closeby to wherever they are thinking of placing him.

I worked for Kroger. That chicken is injected. But I don't think that's the 'whole story' with your loss/menu...but you might want to forego that chicken for a couple of weeks and see if it makes any difference, if not, add it back in a couple times a week.

I honestly don't think it's a big factor either, Pam.

I can't injected chicken/poultry...peeps without Celiac sometimes don't realize how much MSG is in the injectable broth...it's wicked for me..but cuz of the Celiac, not the 'sodium'. Just eat clean...I think the Armour needs adjusted *upwards* and we're gettin' a cold snap this way (I'll be in OH next weekend, but our weather is alike). I don't know about you but anytime we get a large weather change in degree, I either bloat or drop weight.

My thoughts as well.

In addition, I would be on the SERIOUS LOOKOUT for carb creep. Total avoidance of anything processed, including LC foods.

Lots of fresh veggies, particularly the ones high in water content (i.e. celery, cucumbers, etc).

Up the fat ! Lots of good healthy fats, such as olive oil, avocados, etc.

USE FIT DAY.

Reduce sodium; try the Morton Lite Salt which has less sodium and more potassium.

Thanks Betty. Those are all good suggestions. I'm trying to avoid anything processed lately for the very reasons you mention. I told DH "no more Kroger chicken"

well i'm just pretty much repeating whats already been said...
but i never let THAT stop me, lol.

make sure your dairy is limited to 4 oz total a day and cut all sour cream
MORE veggies. 2 c salad plus 1 c low carb veg every single day.
you ARE NOT EATING enough calories. Period. You should be eating much more than that. Hearing of people stalling out on low calories is a frequent occurrence on these boards. I strongly suggest you eat closer to 1500 calories a day and you should make sure to NEVER EVER eat below 1200.

Ok, I upped my calories, but haven't cut out the sour cream-yet.

I had poached eggs and bacon for breakfast
celery with some Alouette spread for lunch followed by some raw almonds.
dinner was leftover hamburger fajita with sweet pepper strips, onion, salsa and sour cream.
Dessert: Clouds
Cals for the day = 1558

Yesterday's menu was:
B: coffee as usual then made a coffee egg cream with the extra. (heartburn!!!)
L: leftover LC pizza (used NancyElle's recipe) (onions, mushrooms, cheese topping)
D: hamburger with sweet peppers, onions, cheese, salsa, sour cream and fajita seasoning. (skillet scramble)
Cals for the day = 2095

Today's weight was back up. My scale hates me

oh brother....now what?

Labs are back. Good news and bad news.

Fasting glucose = 99
A1C = 5.7
Metformin apparently working at least somewhat. 99 seems a bit high for FBG considering I'm still low carbing, though.

I asked them to test free insulin, results not on the paper they sent me.

Total cholesterol = 377
HDL = 53
LDL = 281
Triglycerides = 281

Stinking medical office only put "normal" for all my Thyroid levels. You'd think they'd know by now that is only going to earn someone at the front desk a long PITB phonecall from me

At least this time, there's not a note at the bottom of the test results letter saying "GET IN HERE on the double - signed Dr. XXXX".

Maybe she has given up on trying to reason with me and get me on low fat diet plus anti cholesterol meds.

Anyone want to try and make me feel better and that I'm not going to have a stroke soon?

Most of us who saw those huge numbers for cholesterol BEFORE we were treated for the hypothyroidism that made them that high didn't have a heart attack. (But we sure had to be proactive and hunt down a doctor who knew thyroid well and didn't worship at the altar of TSH). Best of luck to you. (My cholesterol was higher than yours, it is now a combined 174 with tri glys at 27).

Locarb4me - You are addicted to dairy!

Has your doctor recommended a nutritionist you could see? You could address your concerns, show her your menus, etc.

Actually she did suggest I see a nutritionist. I didn't do it because I was afraid of spending more money only to have the SAD shoved down my throat and a waste of my time.

Perhaps I should rethink that.

I don't have the breakdown of my thyroid labs yet so I can't say for sure whether they are improved or not. But don't you think that if in fact my thyroid is not yet optimized that could account for the crappy blood lipids still?

I think you may be surprised how many R.D.'s, are actually on board with low-carb, eating good fats, etc. I haven't seen mine in a while since they increased the co-pay for office visits. Erica kind of gave up when I couldn't settle on an eating plan (low-carb, low-fat, etc.) and then I had issues regarding my binge-eating disorder that needed to be addressed first.

I DO know she wanted me to eat less meat and cheese.

Well, eating less meat and cheese sort of cuts the heart out of low carbing doesn't it? That's kind of what I wanted to avoid. I've developed a real serious suspicion of anybody in the medical world or nutritional world unfortunately.

Well, depends on how long your thyroid has been treated with both T4 and T3. It took about three years of treatment for me to get up to speed and bring that cholesterol down (and NO cheating here..NONE...and I'm taking even 'overeating' the right foods).

I've been on the 90mg Armour for close to a year now. I was also supposed to be taking Cortef 5 mg for adrenal support (prescribed by the BHRT doc) but it tore my stomach up and I stopped.
