What Number Is Considered Low In Carbs?

Okay guys ~ lets see how many of you speak "Marie"! When I read labels I tend to not get it if it has more than 1-3 carbs ~

I don't understand what is considered high in carbs, or what number is...

I am not making any sense am I?

Okay. Let say a bowl of soup had 8 carbs, is that considered high for one meal?

I think it depends on what plan you're on, and where you are in your journey. 8 carbs for one meal wouldn't bother me at all. I eat around 100 grams of carbs per day, sometimes more sometimes less.

For you, doing Atkins, I'm guessing you're on OWL? I'd probably think it might be too much, depending on how big the serving size is and what the rest of your carbs for the day were.

depends on what phase you are in and what type of carb it is.

something can be 10 carbs but be made of white flour - bad
or
10 carb piece of fruit - good

I don't look at it this way. I look at foods that are natural (perimeter of the grocery store - veggies/fruits, nuts/seeds, meat, and full fat dairy). These foods have little carbs if any at all. Then I count up what I have in a day which is 20-55grams of carbs on average.

Soup can be eaten w/very little carbs. Make your own. Get chicken broth, cut up chicken, veggies and cook it up.

AMEN SISTA!

Its not the carbs in the food; its the quality of the food that matters most.

High in carbs is a relative term; I can easily chow down an entire bag of spinach ... which I suppose could be construed as high in carbs .. but my oh my .. what a nutritional powerhouse .... after all, look what it did for POPEYE !

An OWL? Oh dear. I am clueless. I try to eat as little carbs as possible ~ I started Atkins on July 4th, and have lost 20 some pounds!

It really works

OWL = Ongoing Weight Loss
It's a phase on Atkins after Induction when you start adding in carbs again slowly.

When you take the time to read an Atkins book, you will then know what OWL phase is.

Attempting to do "low carb" without any real understanding, is not wise.

My advice...read, read then read some more.

Sweetpoison-- what weight loss plan do you think you may want to follow in terms of low-carb plans?

It's sure a fine thing to decide to keep to a certain number, but it helps when you're following a plan that suits your style, weight loss needs and preferences.

You are right. To be honest, I went into this half a$$, I have the book from the library, "Atkins For Life".....I read it mostly, and read and read on line too, made a list of all foods we can eat and then I found this site!

I don't really have a plan, per se'.... I don't eat any of the foods on the "banned" list...ever...

I am losing weight! I have never felt better ~ however, the first week on this I was not feeling well at all! AND, I could not sleep at all ~

I am the same way when it comes to buying things.. anything that has more than 2 or 3 per serving, I pass by. I eat 20grams per day, so I keep my 3 meals to 5grams each, and leave myself a little room for a coffee or snack.

Ditto to a bunch of what y'all just said....

really, if a low carb food i more than 2-3 carbs a serving, it really ceases to be low carb in my mind.....

the carbs really can add up SO QUICK that way, and if you're not careful..
POOF !

you're over your carbs and out of the bless-ed ketosis state....

SO....
unless you're at maintenence, try to stick with items that don't exceed 3 carbs a serving, at most...

just my 2 cents worth, of course !
