POLL: Nuts

a) Nuts stall me big time (or cause me to gain weight)

b) Nuts help me lose

c) Nuts make no difference in whether I lose or gain

Also, if you'd mention how many nuts you are/were eating, that would be awesome.

Thank you!!!

Nuts are part of my diet. I eat a variety and almost on a daily basis. Usually a handful or so. Munching on a few Brazil nuts right now!

C. As long as I use them in moderation, I'm fine. I count calories though, so I make sure that I don't go overboard. I love peanuts in the shell. It satisfies me, is a great snack, and it's really hard to overdo it with a snack when you have to open each one individually.

I've eaten nuts since the beginning. Macadamias then almonds now I incorporate pumpkin/walnut/sunflower into my shake daily for nutritional purposes......

nuts are a power pack of nutrient density and we always have some in the car as well. I just made a big batch of trail mix for my girls last night and added shredded coconut and dried blueberries (with no sugar)

My afternoon snack is almost always 1/4 cup nuts - usually peanuts, but sometimes assorted nuts. I still lose.

I don't know if they help me lose, but they don't seem to stall me. I eat macadamias, peanuts, cashews, almonds, and pecans (not all at once!) I usually eat nuts 4-5 times a week, but not more than a large handful.

Nuts and almond butter contributed to weight gain for me after 8 months on maintenance, so right now I'm not eating them.

I'm still losing and I'm in ketosis when I eat 1 oz a day of either natural raw, Almonds, Walnuts, Macadamia, Sunflower Seeds, sometimes I will have a big tbsp of all-natural organic crunchy Peanut Butter too.

I love all kinds of nuts, but can't eat just a few, I end up eating more than the portion allowed.
So I only buy them once in a while.

I eat a handful of almonds, pecans, or dry-roasted peanuts whenever I need a snack between meals. The peanuts are addictive, so I try to stay away from them. But they haven't been a problem for me.

B. I eat Macadamia nuts, Almonds or Walnuts almost every day. I portion them out so I don't overdo though.

Wowzer, thanks so much for all of these great responses!!!

I had a handful of dry roasted, lightly sea-salted almonds this afternoon and boy were they delicious. They really hit the crunchy food spot so I'm going to start incorporating them in three or four times a week and see how I do. I had been eating a big spoon of peanut butter most days until a couple of weeks ago when--my god I didn't think this was even possible--I got sick of it! I know peanuts are really a legume and not a nut though, so I wasn't sure if real nuts would agree with me the same way.

Thanks again, and I'd love to keep hearing responses!

I eat them almost everyday. My favorites are pecans, almonds and macadamias. I've eaten them for a long time and they never caused me to stop losing. I think as long as you don't go overboard or have an intolerance, you'll be fine.

I only eat raw or unsalted nuts and not peanuts. There is something that happens to a salted roasted nut that makes ppl binge and I am no exception. I do not think they were meant to be treated and processed they way they are. It's funny if I roast my own that doesn't happen. I don't think it helps or hurts my loss but if I eat that instead of something processed I am ahead of the game.

I eat almonds, macadamias, and/or pecans when I need a quick snack, especially if I'm really hungry and don't have time to cook something - they seem to "hold" me for awhile. Probably 3 or 4 times a week or so, but I also make things with almond flour, so I guess that would count as well. I also like peanuts, but usually only eat them roasted in the shell -that slows me down while eating them, and helps with the portion control issues i have with them otherwise.

How many of you soak your nuts? I've never done this but I'm reading a few raw food sites that recommend that you soak them first, this will releases enzyme inhibitors, making them more digestible.

C for me. I'm not eating them as a snack very often, because then I get portion control problems. I use almond meal to make my One Minute muffin, so 25grams/approx 1 ounce. I'll use pine nuts kernels as a salad garnish, or in stir frys (usually use around 10-20 grams - weight not carbs!) And sometimes I top berries and whipped cream or Greek yougurt with a few flaked almonds. If I do use them as a snack it would usually be in a measured portion of 25grams, to take in to work. Then when they're gone, they're gone, no chance of "just one more" "just a couple as I put the bag away" etc.

I avoid them like the plague as 'portion control' and 'nuts' don't go together in my world.
'A palm-full of nuts' is beyond my comprehension.
